Cat Rescue Stories

The person who is supposed to feed the cats and scoop the boxes on Wednesday mornings is out of town again (with her husband at M.D. Anderson in Houston, I'm sorry to say), so we filled in.

Naturally, it was the one morning Sweetie called and wanted me to run an errand for him, and I couldn't. Amazing how that happens.

The calico Chantelle pulled the usual cat stunt of gorging herself as soon as we fed her, then hacking half of it back up again. If you own cats, put it on the list of daily chores: cook meals, fold laundry, clean cat barf.

Ben has something wrong on the skin above his eyes. Allergies or ringworm, I'm not sure which. I've called the person in charge for that, and he will be looked at. I pray that it is allergies. The window is open between his assigned colony room and the next one, so all 5 cats in those two rooms are able to play with each other and have plenty of room to stretch out. If it is ringworm, we now have to assume all 5 have it. Please, let it be allergies!

Siam is doing better, her milk is finally drying up, 2 weeks after we weaned the kittens. She was dropped off with the kittens at the shelter, and is a very friendly little thing. I hope she goes up for adoption soon.

Willy still seems very depressed, but at least he seems to be eating more now. Frieda is as talkative as ever, and has taken a serious dislike to #2 Son's favorite hat. She hisses whenever she sees it.

The best news was that the KMR has come in! It is kitten season, after all, and we will go through the stuff.

In honor of national humor month:

Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet,
Biscuit, the
Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.

What did she think I had, an elephant? So since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I
told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet
again. I added that I
probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last
time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds
before I awakened in an
intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs
in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your
pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every
time you feel hungry. The food
is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was
going to try it again. (I have to mention
here that practically everyone in line
was now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told
her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's rear and a car
hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard.

Costco won't let me shop there anymore.

  3. Ringworm is the pits. We've had kittens with it before, and it can take weeks for them to get over it. By the time they do, they are no longer small, cutsie little things that adopt easily.

I know they probably developed the hairball as a way to get rid of the indigestible bits of the critters they eat in the wild, but sometimes it just seems excessive.

  5. Hi,

You have a nice blog. I just thought of mentioning about this website www.dustmitesallergies.org. They seem to offer specialized advice of dust mites allergies.

  6. Thanks, Camilynn!

They are taking Ben to the vet to see exactly what he has, and if it turns out a dust mite allergy, I will tell them to look there.
