Pink Elephants

"Mom, guess what i just did!" #2 Son loves to come up behind me with these words, and i never know what will follow.

What now?

"I blew out the speakers on the stereo system Uncle P sent!"

Already? It's only been two days.

"Yeah, already! I was playing the song "Pink Elephants" and it blew the subwoofers and the woofers."

Well, what are you going to do now?

"I'll start saving up for more. Oh, and i told E [#1 Son] what I did, and he asked if I was playing "Pink Elephants" because that one always blows everyone's speakers."

Hmmm, maybe that means you shouldn't play that song? Or play it at a lower volume?

"Yeah, it has a kicking bass that blows speakers. But once i have new ones, they should be able to handle it."

Glad to hear it. Note: sarcasm is still lost on that boy.

  1. You are far more patient than I am, Mimi. I know it doesn't matter that he blew out the speakers, but it would bother me a lot. I would have taken the stereo away, but then again I don't know your son and you do, so obviously that wouldn't have been the right response. I don't have any sense of humor, and you have an abundant one!

Bless your heart for having teenagers, I'm sure they give you ample opportunities for being strong.

I hope that your hands are doing better. Have you thought about switching to using castile soap as a cleaner when you clean the church and your home? It wouldn't suds up as much or be germ-killing, but it would be gentler to your hands, and not everything really needs to be sterilized. Getting things clean is generally enough. For everything else I spray a bleach solution onto the surface. Buying castile soap in bulk and then diluting it to use is also cheaper than buying all the different cleaners. But whatever you do, I hope your hands are better.

  4. Hilary, someone did a punk/heavy metal version, with a huge, driving bass. Crazy what kids will ruin these days, isn't it?
