Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts that encourages us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by River at Drifting Through Life.

This week's words are:

1. consternation
2. tourist
3. attached
4. fresh
5. specific
6. memory

and/or:

1. advantages
2. amount
3. spray
4. reef
5. ouch
6. living

Much to his CONSTERNATION, the TOURIST had ATTACHED herself to him like a piece of coral on the REEF they were above.

She was relentless in her questions, and in LIVING MEMORY he could not think of anyone asking for so many species SPECIFIC details on what they were seeing.

No AMOUNT of dodging shook her loose, even as he worked with others to prepare them for the snorkeling adventure they were about to have.  There were so many ADVANTAGES to working in this paradise, but tourists like her were not one of them.

He'd hoped she'd be as tired as he was by the end of the snorkeling, but she came out of the water with a FRESH batch of questions as she shook the water out of her hair, SPRAYing everyone around her.  Even his long-suffering captain yelling "OUCH" as she removed her equipment with vigor and bopped him on the head with it did not douse her ardor.

This was one day he couldn't wait to get home.

  2. Sigh.
I hope that no-one at home causes him any consternation and that tomorrow's tourists are MUCH more amenable. Love your story.

  3. Hmm, good use of the prompts, but isn't he a bit ... I mean if it's his job to take tourists diving at the reef, shouln't he be glad for a person really showing interest in what theyre seeing and doing? Too many moron-like tourists just do things to tick them off their list. One like her would make my day, not ruin it - that is if her questions are not stupid, but my impression is, that they are not.

  4. Mimi,

We have an outdoor firepit like that, except ours is black. Unfortunately, we haven't had many opportunities to use it. We really ought to change that and yet we do nothing about it. Your story is good with the prompts at hand. I always admire the job you do with weaving the words together forming a scene in my head. :) Have a good day, dearheart!

  12. I love fire pits. They make going outside in cold weather very comfortable. If you can get close enough that is.

I always enjoy your stories. You use word prompts very well. I could feel the frustration in that young man.
