Seen In A Financial Advisor’s Office While Cleaning (Wordless Wednesday) and Choices (Words for Wednesday)

Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts that encourages us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by Elephant's Child.

This week's prompts are:

  1. curse
  2. petrified
  3. pogo stick
  4. little
  5. Paris
  6. assistant

And/or

  1. rooster
  2. happiness
  3. immortal
  4. dark
  5. stormy
  6. knights

“We really need to start thinking about costumes for the party,” she said, scrolling through the online catalog of a local shop.

“Wow, look at that, the hand on that costume looks PETRIFIED!  That is so cool!” he exclaimed, looking over her shoulder.

“If you want that one,” she said, “I’m going as an IMMORTAL.”

“Then we won’t match,” he almost pouted.

“Well, I don’t want to wear a gory costume,” she said, “they are too creepy.”

Noting what was on the screen next he said, “We could dress up as a doctor and his naughty nurse!”

“How about a doctor and her naughty lab ASSISTANT?” she shot back, and he snorted.

“Never mind.  What is the theme of this year’s party?”

“Two themes,” she answered.  “We have a choice of PARIS or chivalry.  Of course, we don’t have to do either, but it’s more fun if you can pick something with the theme.”

“Who came up with those ideas?” he asked, a bit derisively.

“Jan did, and since it’s at her house this year, and she’s providing a lot of the food, she can have whatever themes she wants.”

“It’s a shame we can’t do something steampunk,” he mused.

“Well, let’s think more about what we can do than what we can’t,” she said.  “After all, it’s better to light a candle than to CURSE the darkness.”

“What does that have to do with picking costumes for a party with a lame theme?” he queried.

“Never mi —  wait!  Look at this one!  Knight and his lady,” she read.

“I’ll be the DARK and STORMY KNIGHT!” he almost yelled.  “And to make it funny, I’ll carry my POGO STICK around like it’s my lance!”

“That’s a LITTLE odd,” she said, “but everyone is used to you being a little odd,” she added with a wink.

“I’m not odd, I just have better ideas than everyone else,” he said with mock offense in his voice.

“It’s settled, then  We'll go by the shop tomorrow.  Now, Mr. KNIGHT, your damsel has to get up with the ROOSTER crowing, so I’m heading off to bed now.”

“HAPPINESS,” he noted as he got up to follow her to the bedroom, “is having your costumes settled early in October.”

  8. Great story and so timely! Peanut is undecided on her costume this year. It's hard to come up with an idea for a tween that's not to childish but not too adult!

  15. No wonder I was a never a financial success...
What? People actually decide on costumes in advance? And don't spend the night before Halloween frantically sewing?! How can this be???!

  16. Just here via Wordless Wednesday, and I'm not in sales or anything, but that seems like the opposite of the sales game. I guess it's good for a buyer's market, though?
