Ms. S was out of town for a few days, and Kiki had to stay inside the apartment.  She was lonely, i think, and slept on Ms. S's bed, right on the pillow where she knew her "mama" should be.

i didn't dare get closer, she might have jumped down

Sparks, the brainchild of Annie of McGuffy's Reader, is on hiatus, so here's an Inspiring Quote of the Week in her honor.

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is taking a break right now due to her husband's health.   Charlotte/Mother Owl almost always participates, too.  This week the theme is Dieting Crazes, and i wrote a couple of things.

Diets come and diets go,

But they don't take my fat with them,

That's all i want for them to do,

It'd be nice to alter clothes only at the hem!

Believe me i have tried them all,

In one form or another as they came out,

And every one of them made me want

To simply scream, holler and shout.

Every one works if you stick to it

Is what the researchers will say,

And maybe that is technically true,

But i fought the bulge until the day

That i finally packed it in and said,

Enough is enough already!

Cleaned out my diet, i eat mostly healthy now,

And my weight is finally steady.

If you, like me, have tried them all,

And you're tired of the up and down,

Just find a healthy eating plan,

At the scale you will no longer frown.

Children's Lament, a Haiku

When mom is on diet,

There is no food in the house

Just ingredients

Mom's on a diet again, said son.

How do you know? said daughter.

The fridge is full of celery now,

All all there is to drink is water!

  1. Kiki reminds me of my Angel who always slept on or behind my pillow when I was out, or sometimes on whatever piece of clothing I had recently worn and left on a chair.
    I'm supposed to be dieting....

  2. Poor Kiki.
Once when himself was in hospital the only way I could stop his cat from crying was by giving the cat a dirty t-shirt to sleep on.
I don't do diets. Or weigh myself.

  5. Dieting to loose weight I've never done, but seen many do. I love your poem anyway, but I have a question - hesitantly, as I'm not a native speaker - but is the first line in 2nd stanza: "So simply scream, holler and shout" maybe supposed to read: "To simply scream, holler and shout"?

  6. Awww, I'm sure the kitty is lonely being home alone for a few days. Mom is an optimist and even when she is totally down, her strong mind can bring her up again, so we don't quit...we just keep trying. Great quote you have.

  7. Kitty is just like a little child. The smell of the pillow will comfort the little one. I gave up on dieting plan and just eat moderately. I do wish for the bulge to disappear.

  10. Sweet Kiki, what a love! I just love that Harriet Beecher Stowe quote. I gave up on diets too and do like the French do; eat what I want but in smaller portions, add some sort of exercise that I enjoy and that seemed to work better than any formal diet I ever went on.

  11. Yes, I have one of those slowly sinking desk chairs, so it's good to have a reminder to check the height... before it's my back reminding me!

Ugh. Dieting. It works so well. Until I get to my goal weight. Then go out to celebrate...
    That children's lament is priceless!
