Paper Is Still With Us (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy's Poetry Day and Brian's Thankful Thursday

 ***********************************

"Does anyone else ever pay you by check?"

Ms. G was asking me this as she stood by the chair in "the office" with one of those extension grabbers.  This room has a desk she never uses and is packed with stuff she "needs to get to" but doesn't have time to deal with.

She was using the grabber to reach over stuff to where the package of checks ended up, as she needed to write me one for the work i'd done and she couldn't reach it any other way.

Yes, i told her, several of my clients do actually write me a check each week or every other week; what i did not add was that none of the others tell me i'm not allowed to use the remote deposit option, she insists her have to be taken to the bank to be deposited or cashed.

What she or any of the other check writers are going to do if banks ever do away with paper checks is a question i'm not going to ponder right now, although i figure it's inevitable, like the end of pennies.

Linking up with Denise at Girlie On The Edge Blog, where she hosts Six Sentence Stories, and the cue is Check.

While Good Fences Around the World seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, i still enjoy looking for and posting interesting fences, so i will!  It's a Mardi Gras fence.

  2. Good picture and good poem. I'm really not all that internet savvy, but if I were you and got checks and could use the easy way to deposit them I certainly would. A trip into a bank is never any fun. I like the fence with all the colorful ribbons on it and that smiling yellow mask on the wall behind.

  3. The only problem I have with digital payment is when the middleman wants a monthly fee to process your payment- that is the only check I still write.

  5. Love the image and poem.
Here in Australia cheques (checks) began phasing out about three years ago, there aren't many left who still use them. People get paid by direct deposit to their bank accounts, or by cash which is even more rare than cheques.

  6. Mom has all her client invoices paid electronically but now and then someone needs to write a check and it is a major pain in the behind. Checks should just disappear with pennies. Mom moved back from Germany in 2007 and checks had been gone for several years over there already. Everything is done electronically. Getting checks with USPS is even worse as it can take days or weeks for them to arrive as they are so unreliable.

  9. I'm glad to hear some people still accept checks! I can recall when we'd rush out to bank to get refills when our checks were running low. Now, the checkbook sits full and dusty. Everything is "cards" these days...and most times we never even have cash on us anymore. Not sure how I feel about it--I sort of miss the old days. Oh, and that image and your beautiful poem really hits my feels lately! That's pretty much my image in the mirror now...and I'm left wondering where and how did time fly by so quickly?!

  10. agree about the inevitability of the cashless/written down financial environment
(but then again, how long until most of the population would not be able to actually fill in the information for a check?)
    can I get an 'Aiiyeee'

  11. Thanks for these poems.
Checks ... while they still exist I have not used one for over 30 years. All money here is either via phone (MobilePay), bank transfer (via computer or phone - do-it-yourself) or very seldom cash. Denmark is very digital, and now and then there's talk of abolishing cash - with a lot of people (me among them) loudly protesting.
