On this side of eternity, there’s no such thing as perfect, but this Thankful Day I was tempted to use the word. Instead, i’ll just say the week was much more than just pleasant.
Grandma has been sad she can’t tend to her plants on the enclosed patio and outdoors, they’ve been left to my black thumb to just water them and it’s been this way for a few years now. We’re thankful most of them are still alive and one of her friends has taken up the cause of trying to save them. Ms. Julie has been coming on Saturdays to trim and sweep and tidy and prune and generally figure out what to do with the overgrown jumble of a jungle which is now the porch and outdoor plant area.
#2 Son and i had a good trip to NOLA Saturday, too.
Sunday morning, Mr. Cal looked rather pathetic as he’d had to have two ticks removed from his face, poor guy. We’re thankful it didn’t dampen his desire to take his walk.
#2 Son, Daughter-in-Law and our little Annie came back from Alaska straight into housesitting for Daughter-in-Law’s Aunt May, so there was no babysitting Sunday afternoon/evening. As much as i missed her, and i really did, i kept myself busy and was thankful to catch up on a few other things.
Monday morning i was taking care of Ms. G’s critters (she’s out of town again) when Ms. Sassy Cat tried to bolt for the door. I’m thankful she didn’t get away, it would not have been a good situation. She’s 16, doesn’t know this neighborhood (she roamed her old one), and there’s a mean bully of a cat next door which would make mincemeat of her.
I arrived at Ms. D’s on Monday afternoon to find out she’d been in the ER again with A-Fib. We went over her online charts and couldn’t find the records to bring to the doc the next day, we’re thankful she called the doc and they’d already requested the records. I’m also very thankful she had a ride to the doctor already set up and she let me give the place a good clean, as she’d had her sister and niece in town again.
That evening, i was thankful we didn’t cancel our ladies’ meeting when our hostess coudn’t have us at her house due to a family emergency. We were thankful to have a fabulous meeting at a local eatery, i was thankful my lesson went well, and my Sweetie and i were both extremely thankful to see our tax packet arrive in the mail just before i left for the meeting.
We’re thankful we owe nothing this year to either the federal government or the state, and we were thankful to be able to sign the paper, take the photo and email it that evening when i got back from the meeting.
#2 Son dropped Daughter-in-Law and Annie Tuesday morning so i could watch her while the two of them worked. We were thankful for walks, “chippies!” (crackers), and an excellent nap, no longer a guarantee.

While out in the back yard with Annie, i noticed the ground was way too wet for not having had any rain in a while. Because of previous trouble, my first thought was a water leak, so as soon as i could i made a beeline to inspect the areas around the house and see what was up and where it was coming from.
I was very relieved and thankful to note the outdoor faucet was dripping, and when i picked up the hose nozzle, it was obvious someone had not turned the water off totally the last time the garden was watered. I shut it and thankfully all the water drained off quickly.
Ms. G being out of town, i’m thankful i was able to shuffle up my schedule a little bit and still get everything done, including some extras. Ms. G wanted me to call her so she could micromanage me over the phone about the Sassy situation, but i preempted her by calling her on my way to the back yard through the gate instead of through the house. I’m thankful she just sighed and said it would be a good idea to do it that way, she guessed, and went back to enjoying her time away.
Thursday was a double job day. My Sweetie had been at the farm “dancing with a swing blade in the grass” as he puts it, the day before so he was a bit sore, but we were very thankful to get through the day and get everything done.
I was thankful to lie down an hour when we got home, too. Doubles take it out of both of us.
Because of the changes i’d made to my looser Wednesday schedule, i was thankful to get to Ms. G’s critters at 5am, then get to the church to make coffee and have prayer meeting, and afterward to go to a grocery store i don’t visit very often as it’s out of my way.
Then it was back to watch our little Annie, we were thankful to have quite a fun Friday together.
Ms. A and Mr. J had a big soiree to go to Friday evening, so i was thankful Becca wanted to come with me to the cat shelter (she was a help, and got to pet kitties), then i took her home and stayed with her for the evening. We were thankful for a nice walk with Mr. Cal, and story time, and a good supper.
Not a perfect week, of course, but more than pleasant, and i am very thankful.

ReplyDeleteYou certainly had a busy week and you can be thankful that you were able to take a breath! It's nice to hear that Grandma has wonderful friends to come help take care of her plants. Not everyone has a green thumb but not everyone can work as hard as you have.

I am so glad that the soggy ground was no more than a hose left on, and dribbling under pressure. I hope you don't have to pay for the water you use though, like we do here. All the best for your week, Mimi.
