But then, she isn't trying to be.
A little while back, i noted that i told Bigger Girl to go ahead and paint her room in any way she wanted. At the time, i noted that a gallon of paint later will be much cheaper than paying for therapy.
Now, she is painting the ceiling. That's fine, again, let them express themselves. She is not painting pictures, though, but words. In Latin.
She started with the standard "Cogito ergo sum," I think, therefore I am.
She continued with, "Si hoc signum potes, operis boni in rebus Latinis alacribus et frucluasis potiri potes!" If you can read this sign, you can get a good job in the fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!
Then, "Credo quia absurdum," I believe it because it is absurd.
"Mellita, domi adsu!," Honey, I'm home!
"Vascere bracis meis!" Eat my shorts!
And finally (at least so far), "Non gradus anus roduntum!" Not worth a rat's a$$!
Makes me wonder at times, if i did too good a job fostering a sense of humor and weirdness in them.

ReplyDeleteI love me some Bigger Girl!!
I love Bigger Girl's mind and warped sense of humour. "fast-paced, high-paying world of Latin!"
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carla and Leah. We think she's a keeper.;)
ReplyDeleteI took Latin for eight years and couldn't find anyone to talk with, not even in the Vatican. Maybe your daughter will bring it back. Hebrew was once considered a dead language and look at it now.
ReplyDeleteStephen, she might at that. It would certainly be more useful than Esperanto as a "lingua Franca".
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of Randy Pausch's last lecture, where he says "if your child wants to paint their bedroom, let them." I think your daughter has a rare and wonderful style.
