It started, this time, with a knock at the bedroom door. Now, believe it or not, the cats know how to knock at the bedroom door, and they try to do so and get us to get up all through the night, acting as the human turnstiles for them. This knock i recognized as not being "cat," so i dragged myself up and opened it, bleary-eyed and probably looking worse for wear.
It was #2 Son this time. "Mom, I locked my keys in the car, can you give me the spare?"
Sure, i said as i started to root around for it in my nightstand drawer, just don't forget to bring it back.
"I'll leave it on your computer as usual," he said, then disappeared. Sweetie and i had fallen back asleep a bit later when the phone woke us.
"Mom," #2 Son was saying, "I left my headlights on and my battery is dead! And the friend who drove me to your house to get the spare key just left. Could you or dad come give me a jump start?"
We don't have jumper cables, i said, and i have to be up very early for work, so your dad will come get you, you can go to one of the 24-hour Mall-Mart stores and get some cables, and he will jump you off.
"That'll work," he said, and Sweetie pulled on his jeans, looking as grumpy as i felt, and headed out. They found the Mall-Mart on that end of town is no longer 24-hour, but across the street is a gas station/convenience store that sold jumper cables, so they didn't have to traipse all over town looking.
Sweetie was back within the hour with the spare key, the car had jumped easily. Sleep, however, didn't come so easily, thus i was bleary-eyed all day Monday at both jobs.
"Why does this stuff always seem to happen to our kids?" Sweetie asked. "My dad used to say the hardest part of raising kids was mostly over when they were 18, but in our case, that seems to be when the bigger problems start!"
Indeed.

I guess such things happen, always good to have family to rely on, hehe. Thanks for sharing and greetings.
ReplyDeleteI remember these nights. Always seemed to be at night too. Kids are kids and it takes them forever to get it. It just does.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
Even when they are older, kids have no respect for parents need to sleep.
ReplyDeleteWhen my youngest was four he always played with the passenger globe in the back. Drained the battery several times.
Hopefully they are learning from this mistakes! If not, you need to set up some guidelines.
ReplyDeletelistening to your stories, i tend to agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure these qualify as big problems. Your kids sound great and any problem that doesn't involve bail is probably a small one.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest still wakes me up almost every single night. just to "put her back to bed". she goes back without any fuss and just wants that tuck in; but goodness it's hard having that sleep interruption every single night. I figure I have not slept through a night since my eldest was born 11 years ago, and I guess I can look forward to it not happening any time soon.
ReplyDeleteKids! If we didn't love 'em so much we'd have to kill them! The sweet revenge part is knowing that they will likely get to experience their own joys of parenthood someday! :-)
