Comeaux and Strontium and Dates and More (Random Tuesday)

Stacy Uncorked

And now, a bit of random news from around here, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked.

Comeaux got "fixed" and microchipped yesterday.  Dumpling is still at least two weeks away from being big enough for her surgery.  When he got home, Comeaux was still very loopy, and poor Dumpling kept trying to get him to play.  He would lie there and fall asleep with her chewing on his ears.  Finally i had to take pity on him and put him up on a chair she could not climb so i could watch him and he could nap in peace.

Bigger Girl is going forward with her roller derby training.  She now has the money for her own skates and safety equipment instead of having to use the general team equipment.

Yesterday at work she got to make the special whatever it is they make in the science lab on campus where she has her student job.

"Mom," she said, "it was very labor intensive, but I got to do it!  I had to measure out exactly .000237mg of sodium for the solution.  Do you know how hard it is to measure out exactly that much sodium?  Oh, and I've decided I hate working with strontium."

My sentiments exactly, i responded, then went and looked up strontium.  No, i don't want to work with it much, either, but i'm not a scientist.  Being the janitor, i'd just have to clean up after the scientist, i'm sure.

Little Girl came in and discussed her plans about going to school in a small town about a 45 minute drive from here.  While we were talking, she opened the fridge and grabbed the container of dates.

"Oh, dates!  I didn't know you had dates.  I'm going to go on a date!"  She grabbed one, then laughed and grabbed another, saying "I may go on a double date!"  Got to love a kid with a sense of humor.

Yesterday i started trying to call Ms. JAI around 11am to see if she needed me.  (Like many of my other older clients, she has earned the right to sleep in if she wants, and she wants.)  Every time i called i got the message that "your call cannot be completed at this time" and it worried me.  Around 1pm, i gave up and went over there to check up on her.

Turned out she'd accidentally left the phone off the hook, and was wondering why i hadn't called.  She was glad i'd come, she wanted all the sinks, tubs, and toilets scoured with the pumice stone.  Also, her phone didn't stop ringing while i was there.  All the people who had tried to call her since the night before were as worried as i was!

Sweetie has a new pastime.  When he watches a movie on DVD, he stops at each scene and writes down all the product placements he sees.  No, i don't know why this is so fascinating to him, but if it keeps him amused, let him have at it.

Today is my appointment to take the twins in for their glamor shots, a/k/a getting my annual mammogram.  Ladies, if you need one, please make that appointment soon.  Gentlemen, you know you need to see a doctor once a year also and get certain things, like PSA levels, checked.  Please don't delay.  Early detection is critical in saving lives.

  2. Mimi,

I hope the mammogram goes well with no surprises. I had mine early summer, everything checked out fine, too. I need to get an annual exam and colonoscopy but I'm gonna wait on those until next spring. I got the most important things done after not being able to the previous two years. Your daughter's involvement in roller derby makes me chuckle a bit because it reminds me of being a kid and watching the late Saturday programming. I don't know why I was drawn to it, especially with the gals bumping and knocking others out of the rink. Thinking about now, that's pretty darn dangerous! Do they still do that? BTW, what is Bigger Girl studying in school? Is Little Girl a senior in high school? A 45-minute drive one way isn't horrible but it gets old. Isn't there a school closer to home she likes? The lady who left her phone off the hook, didn't she notice the horrible sound coming from the handset? Or, do they not make loud noises any more? It's been forever since I've used our home phone but it's VoiP service and it may not even behave the way a normal landline line does when the receiver is off the hook.

Johnny Apple Seed...ha-ha! That makes me think of being in grade school for some reason. I remember my teacher telling the class how Johnny introduced the apple tree to America. It's hard to imagine it wasn't native to our soil before that time, though. :)

The list of birthdays sparks names from the past I hadn't thought about in years, like Melissa Sue Anderson. I wonder what became of her after "Little House on the Prairie"? She was such a pretty girl.

It's always fun reading your family news and filtering through the historical tidbits. Have a randomtastic day!

  3. I don't know what strontium is, but I don't think I would want to work with it either.

  4. I love your kids. They are most entertaining.

I had my mammogram last week. I always go every year. Always. I agree that early detection is key.

Strontium is the chemical element with symbol Sr and atomic number 38. An alkaline earth metal, strontium is a soft silver-white yellowish metallic element that is highly reactive chemically. The metal forms a dark oxide layer when it is exposed to air. Strontium has physical and chemical properties similar to those of its two vertical neighbors in the periodic table, calcium and barium. It occurs naturally in the minerals celestine, strontianite, and putnisite, and is mined mostly from the first two of these. While natural strontium is stable, the synthetic Sr isotope is radioactive and is one of the most dangerous components of nuclear fallout, as strontium is absorbed by the body in a similar manner to calcium. Natural stable strontium, on the other hand, is not hazardous to health. Source: Wikipedia

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  6. strontium?? What in the heck is she doing? Glad you are keeping up your health and I envy that lady who has so many friends that call her to check on her. I really think my phone would ring maybe once a month if I was widowed and old!

  7. Well now I know a lot about Strontium. Don't think I would mess with that either. Sounds like a busy time around your house. Good for you to go for a mammogram.

  8. Had to laugh, I read the title of your blog and was racking my brain to figure out what element Comeaux was! Eep! Hope the poor thing was able to get more on an even keel. I know that when I've been sedated for tests, it takes a bit to be "normal" again. Or at least normal for me... Ok, I think your date and double date kid and I would get along great. Mom has told me that I am a glutton for PUNishment more than once!
