And now, a bit of random news from around here, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked.
There has been rain in the swamps, and some of us have let it postpone plans, and some of us have not. Our church delayed the second night of the Live Nativity. Instead, they will have it during the Sunday morning service on Christmas Eve, including bringing the animals into the sanctuary.
That is the weekend i will be at Grandma and Grandpa's house. No matter what work needs to be done, i am going to watch the livestream of that service. Knowing how reluctant the sheep are each time, and that the goats are the fainting kind, it ought to be quite a show.
Our neighborhood did not postpone the Luminary display. They banked on the prediction of a lull in the rain, and it paid off. We lit our luminaries and then walked to one of the hot cocoa stations, enjoying the lights and company of neighbors. Santa went through the neighborhood with the fire fighters, throwing candy and posing for pictures.
Little Girl came by that evening, as did #2 Son and Daughter-in-Law Becky and Young Jacob, who was wearing nothing but his long johns (or union suit, as some call it) and a jacket and boots. He says he is going to start a new holiday, National Long Johns Day, and i told him to apply to Chase's Calendar of Events to have it made official. He said he would if we would all wear our long johns with him once a year. Sorry, but i have to take a pass on that.
Little Girl hadn't seen my face since i fell and got stitches, and she was in tears. "My poor mommy, you are hurt!" she kept saying. When i mentioned letting her take out my stitches, she almost panicked. They will have to come out over the next weekend, when of course all the doctor's offices will be closed and i will be out of town anyway. Grandpa will probably end up being given the honors. It's very convenient having a doctor in the family.
Little Girl also came in last night after i got home from work carrying all of her Christmas shopping. She took advantage of the fact that i stock up on wrapping paper the day after Christmas each year, and she had a great time getting her gifts ready. She handed her father his gift and said, "Don't open it, and don't shake it!"
Today we are supposed to be able to get Bigger Girl’s car, Cicero, back from the mechanic. It’s been a long three weeks sharing vehicles, and now i am spoiled. Lunceford the Land Yacht has heat, and my Jalopy does not. Once Cicero is back, i will get my Jalopy, which will be nice, but i think i’m going to have to invest in a heating pad that plugs into a car outlet, if they make such a thing.
The dog is still here. Every lead to find her a home has gone nowhere, but we are not giving up.
Zippy is going up for adoption tomorrow. We are very hopeful he won’t be at the shelter for long.

Mimi,
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed the news of your mishap resulting in your facial injury which required stitches. Now, that IS convenient you have a doc in the family. Whenever we need stitches removed, then DH removes them. He takes the two stitches in my hip every 3-4 months when I get my HRT pellets. In the past, he removed my staples after hysterectomy surgery. He does a good job and has no medical experience. :) I'm glad that your neighborhood went through with the luminaries. We visited Dillsboro, North Carolina on the first for their annual luminaries lighting. It's such a beautiful show. Oh, snap a live nativity with real animals! Now, that's gotta be exciting to see first hand. I'd love to see such a production. I'm glad you'll be aired for you to watch while away for Christmas. National Long Johns Day...isn't there a National PJ Day? Tell your son, he could just wear his long johns for that national day. :) Have a fun week. The "Big Event" is almost upon us and I can't believe how fast this month is passing us. Merry Christmas to you and yours, dear friend and God bless!
Oh my goodness Mimi. I always check on your blog and I never knew about your injury. I'm so sorry about that. I hope that you getting better. First Steve in England and now you. Keep safe my friend. Merry Christmas to you all. See ya.

Hope your stitches come out without incident. I love old-fashioned traditional activities like luminaries and live nativities. I did not know there was such a thing as fainting goats?
ReplyDeleteI would take out your stitches if I was near, but you have a doctor in the family and that's good. It wouldn't be the first time I've taken out stitches.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've had a busy week as usual.
I hope the pup finds a forever home soon. I know it's a disruption to have cats and then a dog comes for a visit.
Have a fabulous day filled with many blessings. ♥
I was interested to see your mention of the Icelandic Christmas troll, I was fascinated at the Icelandic traditions which I must confess sound quite grim, but so different from everywhere else. I don't think I'd have been that keen to take stitches out either, I feel for your daughter! I hope you're fully recovered soon. The animal service sounds hilarious!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have someone to take the stitches out. Hope the doggie finds a good home and soon. You all have a great evening.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get better soon. I always love your tidbits. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week and Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI don't even own a pair of long johns!
ReplyDeleteStitches? Yikes! Be well and have a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLong Johns Day? That could be interesting. The luminary night sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteChristmas time is certainly for families to come together. Not always easy to organise when members are far away. Love the writing!
