"Knee"ding Attention (Six Sentence Story) and Good Fences

"Ow, ow, ow, my knee!" he yelled as he came hobbling into the house.

"What happened?" she asked as she helped him over to the couch.

"I tripped over that loose brick on the porch I've been meaning to get to, and I heard my knee give a pop noise, and ooooowwww, it hurts!"

"What do you think you need, an ice pack or an ambulance?" she asked, trying to bring in a little levity; she knew if she got him smiling, it would take his mind off the pain, even if it did turn out to be a serious injury.

"As Charlie Brown once observed, I'm dying and all I hear is insults!" he tried looking grumpy as he said it, but failed miserably.

"Ice pack it is," she said as she got up, and she smiled and nodded when he called after her, "Can I have some ice cream, too?"
