Awww Monday is hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus.
Join us every Monday for Awww...Mondays. Post a picture that makes you say Awww... and that's it.
Make sure you get the code from Sandee's site, linked above, and leave a link to your post so we can visit you. What better way to start the week than with a smile!
Grandma's dog, Lulu, loves having visitors and always looks sad when it's time for us to go:

Sparks, the brainchild of Annie of McGuffy's Reader, is on hiatus, so here's an Inspiring Quote of the Week in her honor.

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border. She and Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey take turns providing a theme each week, and Mother Owl almost always participates, too. This weeks theme is Tuna.
There are times when money is rare
And dinner is just the bare
Minimum to keep body and soul together
That's when desperation causes,
Mom, even though with a couple of pauses
To think about the which way and the whether,
Causes mom to pull on out
The meal that causes groans and shouts
The one that starts with plain ol' cans of tuna.
She picks up egg noodles
(It's only pennies for oodles
Of them, and they are very filling)
She buys frozen peas
Two bags if you please,
That's when eyes open and questions start to spilling
Mom, tell us that you have not
Given in to the horrible thought
Of serving us a casserole of tuna!
Yes, my loves, i'm sorry to say
It will have to be that way
The money's tight, and so has come this day
We really have no other choice,
And you need not to raise your voice
I already know what you are going to say
That there's no way you can once more stand
To give in to my demand
That you eat for supper a boatload of this tuna.
One day soon it is my hope
I'll no more be at the end of my rope
With no money for the finer things in life
The things you would prefer i make
Like lobster or a well grilled steak
Maybe one day with these we will be rife
Meanwhile i just have to tell
That at least there is food, oh well,
Even if it's just casserole of tuna.

ReplyDeleteI hope the coming week treats you kindly, mm. :)
When I was young, I remember feeling so lonely and sad when guests leave our house. Those were the days. When money is rare and the stomach hungry, we look forward to anything just to fill up the stomach. We kids do not complain.
ReplyDeleteRabbit was the food that was served in our house when money was tight. Rabbit is now considered a luxury by some, but even if I still ate meat I couldn't face it.
ReplyDeleteWe never had tuna noodle casserole, but we did have tuna mornay at least once a week. This is made by stirring drained tuna and cooked peas into a cheese sauce, in a casserole dish, topping it with mashed potatoes, then baking until potatoes brown a bit. We had rabbit a few times when I was very young, but I've never liked it. During some really tough weeks, Dad would buy meaty ribs usually sold as dog bones and make soup from them. The butcher knew this and always gave dad the meatiest dog bones.
ReplyDeleteAww! How cute is Lulu :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL @ Lee's comment
I will take a PB&J sandwich over tuna any day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a rather aspirational inspirational quote.
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to pencil in, "But no pressure!" at the bottom...
;-D
A lot of people these days live to work which is so sad. We work to live, and no more than that. Life is a live show, a one time thing, so do it right.
ReplyDeleteLulu is a pretty girl. Yes pups can be ever so expressive. They talk to us if we just listen.
ReplyDeleteLove your Spark.
You poem is spot on. I so remember all the years of lean eating. I can say there have been many times in my younger years that I have gone to bed hungry.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. ♥
Aww Lulu ~ you are a sweetie ~ don't be sad ~ you are loved.
ReplyDeleteHappy Day to You,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Today is National Chocolate Day?!! WooHoo!! Sounds much better than tuna casserole. :-) Lulu is a huge Awww! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLulu is a cutie. Great spark too. And I like the poem. I would prefer tuna casserole to lobster or steak.
ReplyDeleteAwww, sweet LuLu! That spark is spot on! What else are we here for if not to make the world a better place by our existence?
ReplyDeleteHowdy sweet Lulu! Great Spark, we enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteYou have a Lulu on your post today (lovely girl) and so do I! Your poem has left me wanting some tuna noodle casserole. My mother never made it and the first time I had it away from home I thought I was in heaven :)
