"It's been quite a Christmas," she said, smiling as she sat on the couch.

"Yes, it has," he noted, taking a seat next to her.

"That was quite a compromise we came up with for the tree," he added, looking at the corner she had called Christmas Cheer Central, and she laughed.

"Well, when you first get married you have to compromise to come up with your own traditions.  After all, you are blending two different backgrounds into one new family." 

"I'm still thrilled with the idea of two small trees instead of one big one," he said, "a Douglas fir for your side of the family, and a Scotch pine for mine!"
