Lighter Load, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

***********************************

Well, here it is Thankful Day and the only real emergencies going on involve a sick client and a phone that needs to be replaced.

On Tuesday, i went to help Ms. S.  She was weak, and did not even want to get out of bed, and i am so thankful she let me come.  Usually when she’s like that, she doesn’t want to have anyone over.

Her daughter-in-law had bought her some baskets and i am thankful i was able to reorganize her bathroom counter space so now i can clean it.

By Friday she was in the hospital for pneumonia.  Her son and daughter-in-law are bringing her home today, and i am thankful i can go over there this evening after Grandma’s house and check in on her.

As for the phone, Bigger Girl’s phone went kaput a while back, so i bought her a new one from Best Buy.  Now our phone carrier says, even though that phone was purchased specifically to be compatible with them, that they will not support it much longer.  Thankfully, she and i had talked about her switching carriers before she left, so that is already in the works.

Then there’s Bessie Low-Key, which is now #1 Son’s car.  We are thankful Kevin scored a reasonably priced light assembly for it, and it can be installed today so he car will pass inspection.

As for Mr. Lenny, he tripped on a rug at his home and broke his hip, and all of us are thankful he is recovering after surgery.

On Wednesday, i was so very thankful that Sweetie and i have been added to the cat shelter’s emergency volunteer list.  Even though they have had to go back to appointment only adoptions and even shut the shelter for a couple of days, he and i get to continue going in as usual.

Wednesday was also a red-letter day in that Ms. G gave me a face shield to use instead of a mask!  It is much easier to work in than a standard mask, and i am thankful to have it.

On Thursday at Ms. V’s house, Carl, the special needs adult son, saw me in the shield and got very concerned.  He reminded me that it would be much easier for me to touch my face with that than in a mask!  His concern for me was touching, and i am very thankful for him.

Friday morning held an unpleasant discovery — one of the checks Ms. V had written to me was not able to be deposited (it was for the work i’d done for Carl, so it came from his account).  He had used it as a check-by-phone for something, and didn’t write it on the check or in his register, so i am very thankful a quick phone call to Ms. V got another check written and Sweetie got it picked up and deposited.

Friday saw extra work for Mr. BA, which is a bonus thankful.

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Kristi and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

  5. Great list of thankfuls, although I am sorry that some of your clients are under the weather. I like the shields, I am more apt to touch my eyes and that would be a good reminder not to.

  7. Sounds like you dealt with a lot of clients' medical issues, I'm glad all of them will be OK.
I would think that a shield would be perfect for you, and any way to stay safe and be more comfortable is something to be grateful for indeed.

  8. I hope as I write this, Ms S is well on the mend....my positive thoughts go her way.

Similar go out to Mr. Lenny. How frightening it would have been for him. I believe as we all get older it is a big fear...the fear of falling and breaking a hip. I hope he mends soon.

    Take care. :)

  10. I have noticed some of the people working in the grocery stories wear the face shields and I've wondered if that wouldn't be easier than wearing a cloth mask all day. That was nice you were given a face shield.
So sorry that two of your clients were experience health related difficulties.

  12. Your care and kindness towards your clients makes me grateful that you're in this field of work. We need more of you! I'm sure they could write pages of thanks related to you. I have seen clear face shields on some workers and envy them the cooler protection. Face masks can be SO uncomfortable and I am not sure how folks wear them all day, every day. I hope your folks get well soon and that they are able to enjoy your visits even more!

*of course, we're talking about stress measured in your world, a low-level of which would put most if us under the bed, refusing to come out.
