Better Heed This One (Wordless Wednesday) and Words for Wednesday

***********************************

Linking up with Wordless Wednesday and Sandee at Comedy Plus.

***********************************

Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by Lissa.

This week's prompts are:
1. belong
2. miserable
3. memory
4. quiver
5. ghost

And/Or
6. woven
7. shiver
8. maybe
9. sunshine
10. beneath

"Did you ever know that you're my heroooo," warbled Aunt Marigold.

"I know it's the pain meds the dentist gave her," June said softly to Alan, "and I'm glad she's not MISERABLE from the pain, but does she have to sing so loud?"

Aunt Marigold had sailed into the dentist's office a very different way from how she sailed out.  The return journey had taken all three of them to get her both to and into the car.  Alan and June had both been glad not to have tried to get her there alone.

"Youuu are the wind BENEATH my wiiiiings," floated from the front bedroom, sending a SHIVER through June.

Alan just sighed.  "If my MEMORY serves me, when I was younger she had a dental visit while staying at my cousin's house.  He said pain medicine has always had this effect on her, makes her think she's a singer.  He also said she thought she saw a GHOST and invited it to sing along, but it was just the SUNSHINE reflecting off of a mirror."

June laughed and at that moment, Aunt Marigold stepped out of the bedroom.

"It sounds like joy and merriment out here, kiddos!" she said, but with a bit of a QUIVER in her voice that was quite unlike her.  "MAYBE you can fill me in on the joke?"

"Oh, it was nothing, Aunt Marigold," June said, trying to think fast.  Alan came to her rescue, "We were just delighted with how well your dentist appointment went, that's all."

"Well, I'm delighted, too!"  Aunt Marigold was heading for the kitchen on a path that had her bumping the walls and furniture, just the way she'd been when she left the dentist's office.  Alan grabbed her arm gently and steered her toward her favorite WOVEN rattan chair, where she went down with a most ungraceful and un-Marigold-like plop.

Once seated, she continued her slightly slurred commentary.  "Your dentist was wonderful to go ahead and fill that tooth right away so I don't miss my flight out day after tomorrow.  Meanwhile, I'm fearfully hungry..."

"Supper's almost done," June headed for the kitchen.

"Well then, I'm sorry I went ahead and sat down," Aunt Marigold started.

"We're all eating in here on TV trays," Alan said, loud enough for June to hear.  Going into the kitchen closet for the trays, he murmured just loud enough for June to hear, "The less she walks around tonight, the better, and if we eat in front of the TV, she won't need to talk or sing to entertain us!"

  1. Love your story - and am very, very glad that Aunt Marigold is feeling no pain (and that the pain she is giving Alan and June is very temporary).

  2. Your story has put a smile on my face and brought back a memory from when my daughter K had all her wisdom teeth out. She was sleepwalking after it, stumbling around convinced she was awake, so we steered her back to bed and she slept it off.

  6. Mimi,

I want what Aunt Marigold got at the dentist! I've never left feeling that good after any kind of dental procedure. Nope, I need to request this stuff next time...that is if there's a next time which I hope there isn't if the truth be told. :) Hmmm, I didn't know that Burger King owns the donut chain Tim Hortons. Stay safe, be well, and have a fun & Wild Wednesday, my dear!

  8. We could use a year in which every day is Be Kind to Humankind Day and we could start with a Day of Repentance.
If Lucy finds out it's National Dog day she's going to expect extra special snacks. Have a blessed day.
