Lots To Do, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

***********************************

Well, we've managed to do it again.  Here we are at Thankful Day, and i'm behind the 8-ball, losing daylight.

Anyway, it wasn't as wild a ride as last week, so i'll take it.

Monday's biggest thankful was everything to do with Carl and his birthday.  We had fun, and i was very thankful i found just enough cash to pull off the gift of giving him "bread".  That was the last day of August, and we made it through the month with 46cents to spare in the checking account!

Coda was here a good portion of the week, and she no longer barks at Brother-in-Law, who simply walks past and ignores her.  It works great that way, and we are thankful.

On Tuesday, i went to Ms. S's apartment for what i call the big cleaning day.  (Ever since she had the pneumonia, i go by there at least 5 times a week, mostly when i'm just in the area, to scoop the cat box, wash dishes, and take out the trash.)  She was thankful for clean sheets and that i was able to get everything she wanted at the store.

The best news from Ms. S, besides that her house in under contract, is that her Daughter-in-Law came by and complimented her on how nicely she's keeping her apartment now.  Ms. S and i are both tickled that between what she's doing and what i'm doing, things are staying much better than before.  Also we're thankful we got the idea to use a chair for propping her feet and they aren't swollen any more.

Tuesday evening, Ms. GA texted me to confirm that i'd start cat-sitting the next morning.  What a thankful thing extra work is, and as a bonus, she knew i'd be so busy going to her house twice a day that i wouldn't have time for the laundromat this week, so she let me use her washer and dryer.  The laundry is caught up, hooray!

Every day of the cat-sitting has gone well so far, and i am very thankful.  Abigail is glaring at me that i won't let her out, but she can glare away, she is only allowed out when someone is there to keep an eye on her.  Little Orphan Annie and Oliver Twist won't let me near them, as usual, while Puddin' comes and goes, as does Big Red.  So far, Louis, Sunshine, Summer, and Miss Alice have come to the porch for each meal (she manages her own small feral colony of cats dropped on her).

Wednesday's cat shelter duty was long but worth it.  We have almost every cage full, and cats are getting adopted about as fast as they are coming in.

Wednesday also saw a potentially explosive situation begin, and by Friday it had settled down.  Another of those tangles where someone was helped to escape spousal abuse.  Spouse is angry but knows that, in his position, he can't afford to see jail time, so he is letting go.  All is now well, and we are very thankful.

This past Thursday was only the second time i've cleaned Ms. V's house since we started the new schedule where i do Carl's part on Mondays only, and her and Mr. L's part every other Thursday.  It works great, i am really getting more done on the rest of the house now.

Ms. V also let me know that they will be gone next Monday, but they still want me to come do Carl's room.  That's a blessing, it's not easy on us when work cancels out.

While i was at Ms. V's, Sweetie took Coda to her yearly vet appointment for booster shots, an exam, and her Trifexis.  We are thankful for a clean bill of health.

Little Girl is still on orders, but she is being allowed to go home at night, since she is stationed so close, and we are thankful for that.  It also means that now she keeps Coda at the apartment with her as of Thursday night, and while i know they are happier with it that way, i do miss having the dog around.

Friday was a long day, to Ms. GA's to cat-sit, then cleaned their place, then went to Ms. S, then back to work on Mr. BA's shop and all through the day as the shade moved, watering whatever plants were in the shade, the cat shelter, and then back for evening cat duty.  By the end of it all, i was thankful to still be sane!

Today is back to Grandma and Grandpa's for Sam's and the grocery and cleaning and, if i get done with it all early enough, and episode or two of The Incredible Dr. Pol.  It might make Grandpa a bit grumpy, but i am thankful i can go every week now.

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Kristi and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

  4. I'm thankful for all that Mary Lou is doing but this morning she's not feeling very well. I always get worried when she's feeling poorly because she's usually sick. I hope she's OK. Enjoy your Saturday Mimi. Ciao.

  6. You made it through again, and with the ability to see the thankfuls too. Keeping track of everyone's needs is certainly a full time job for you, but you are staying sane and that is a very good thing!

  8. They say we stay young by taxing the mind and doing things like solving puzzles, learning new things, listening to Bach; given you list of places to go, people to help and cat's names to remember, you will surely be the youngest among us as the century proceeds on it's tour of the existential funhouse.
    Have an excellent week ahead.
