"Those crazy people selling boutique guitar amps, look how much they want!" He snatched the magazine up again and said, "Starting price is $20,000, and for what! These things don't sound any better than the '63 Vox I have, and I didn't pay nearly that much!"
You're happy with what you have then? i asked.
"I've found my tone," he responded, "and it's not some prissy expensive amp like this that doesn't even have vacuum tubes in it!"

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
This is the only PE for me,
At the alley's where i want to be,
The rest of you can play your sports,
All that just makes me out of sorts.
You keep your tennis racquet,
At volleyball i do not excel,
Don't try to make me play softball,
But bowling, i think it's swell!
(when i was in high school, for PE class seniors were allowed to opt out of the regular class and go bowling instead, and trust me, that's what i did!)

The thankful for the day is that our vet carries the special diet food we have to use with our crew. We get a Chewy box once a month, but lately the boxes are sometimes a day or two late (Chewy ships them out on time, it's other problems). So we had to resort to going to the vet, and thankfully, they had a small bag to tide us over.

Bowling instead of PE! I wish we'd had that choice, for us it was PE or extra homework. Bowling wasn't in Australia back then anyway although it is popular here now.

A most personal choice. I'm inclined to side with Sweetie. Back in the day, most of my friends used tube amps and it seemed the bands I used to go see, many used tube amps. I can only imagine the cost of equipment these days!

Sometimes the old things we have work way better than the new version that costs a fortune! We have to order prescription food for cat bro Bert. Mom always gives it at least a week of time for shipping with Chewy, even though it is normally much faster. Glad you could get what you needed at the vet.

ReplyDeleteYou know Mimi, I was in hockey, baseball, football and any physical type of game but after my stroke all that went down the drain. Soon I was able to golf and play bowling. That's why today's poetry was exciting for me. Thanks my friend.

Cat Dad loves his old Harmony amp with vacuum tubes, consider both your Vox and his Harmony are near 60 years old and still work beautifully, they don't make them like that anymore, not even for $20,000! I love the bowling poem, in my school we had the choice of PE or snow skiing, I was on those slopes!

ReplyDeleteThere were several girls intramural teams when I was in junior high and high school. I enjoyed intramural bowling. I wasn't the best bowler, but wasn't the worst either.
Love your short stories, that interaction with Sweetie rings so true! Bowling wasn't an option for me back in the day but nothing would have kept me from PE. My main gripe was that we had far fewer options than my brothers at a boys school.
