She'd just come in from the MARKET, rushed as always.  There was always so much to do, she thought, life here was not much better than back "home" in that regard.

Listening to the men in the public room, she was worried as usual.  There was a SURGING IMPULSE toward rebellion among many of them which got worse when the WINE and ale were flowing.  She understood, more than many would have guessed, she and her husband having discussed this many times.  Still, she almost wished they didn't have to CONGREGATE in the tavern she and her husband had worked so hard to make into a successful enterprise.

She had no desire to return to the life of the PEASANT she had once known.

In setting down her purchases and trying to LIGHT the lantern, she knocked a platter to the floor.  The clang caused the conversation in the public room to stop abruptly, and her husband threw the door open and peered in.  Seeing her, he smiled and nodded, knowing how hurried she was to try to get the stew on for supper.  He went back out and explained it was an accident, there was nothing to worry about.

She realized if the men in the next room were that concerned about being overheard, they must be plotting in earnest.  As riled up as all of them were over the taxation issue, she knew they were now willing to HAZARD a war.

Heaven help us, she thought, we are going to need it.
