"Something smells so good in here -- is that a cake?"
"Yes, a celebration cake, what my children used to call a 'foofetti!' cake."
"What are we celeb -- wait, a what?"
"There's a cake on the market called 'Funfetti' with candy sprinkles in it, kind of like confetti in the cake, and my children could never say it right so we call it 'foofetti!' and this isn't from a box, it just has the sprinkles added in for the fun."
"It smells like it's going to be fun eating, but what are we celebrating?"
"Anything at all, or nothing, or everything, every day is worth celebrating with some candy confetti, or rather, ‘foofetti!’ sprinkles."

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
The local soda fountain was
the ice cream lover's dream,
a part of the local drug store,
had everything you'd ever seen.
You'd come to get your medicine
and couldn't leave without
a comic book or smelly perfume,
and an ice cream, without a doubt.
Kids would hang around here
as soon as school was done,
much better than just meeting online,
it's sad that they're mostly gone.
(Note the word mostly. Our local soda fountain still exists, although it's not a drug store any longer, just the sodas and ice cream and burgers part.)

Sprinkles inside a cake! I'll have to try that one day. Soda fountains were never part of Australian culture, we had what we called "Milk Bars" where ice creams and milkshakes could be bought, they had tables and chairs but no stools by the counter and later sold such things as hotdogs as well. Burgers could be bought at the Fish and Chips shops.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to celebrate and shouldn't be confined to just special days. We must treasure every moment we have. Life is so short and unpredictable. These days I will try my best to avoid ice creams because I have been trying to cut down my weight.
ReplyDeleteA gate with a window!!!
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Smiling at your six sentence story. We do indeed need to celebrate. Every day. Echoing River about soda fountains. We just didn't have them.
ReplyDeleteNow and again I make a cake with a hollow centre filled with M&M's, it's great to see people's faces when they cut into it!
