It's time for the Monthly Poetry Group, hosted by Karen at Baking in a Tornado. Participants write a poem about a topic one of us chose. This month, Diane chose Kindness. Be sure to go check out all the poems.
"Be nice" is what your mother said
when you went out to play.
"Be kind" is what it really meant,
it improves everyone's day.
"Be nice," is what the teacher said
when the toys you had to share,
"Be kind" is what it really meant,
it shows others you care.
"Be nice," the driving instructor said
when you got behind the wheel.
"Be kind" is what it really meant,
In that car is a person who can feel.
"Be nice," is what you hear yourself say
when speaking to the young.
"Be kind," is what it really means,
watch your manners and your tongue.
"Be nice," is the rule to follow
when you say what's on your mind.
Before you speak, ask yourself,
is it true, is it helpful, is it kind?

A kindness costs you nothing
and gives a great return.
Sometimes we walk in sorrow and
for such a deed we yearn.
It makes a day go better
if you go a bit out of your way,
it's sunshine for the soul
even if the skies are gray.
