"Soon, boy, soon."
The woman holding the leash smiled with as much anticipation as the dog at her side showed by his body language.
It was a credit to his training from all the proprietors that he didn't strain or pull, knowing if she said, "Soon," she meant it.
A few more moments of walking and they went through a gate onto a private property the woman had been told she could use, an acre or so of woods and walks and even a small pond, a veritable doggie playground where the animal could run and play and "get his wiggles out," as she liked to say.
Hunga held still as she unfastened his Pet Partners' harness, then she let him loose to run, knowing he'd have a ball smelling all the smells and even chasing a few squirrels within the safe bounds of the fenced property.
Mimi sat on a bench by the side of the small pond, leaned back, slipped out of her shoes to stretch her toes, then opened a book and thought to herself, the dog and i both need a half-hour off lead every day for our sanity.

ReplyDeleteThat was a good one and it sounds like a good place to unwind.
ReplyDeleteThat is a truly lovely story. Yes, we do all need time and space to unwind.
ReplyDeleteI like your story and we do all need time off each day, I get mine when I take a nap.
ReplyDelete🤗❤❤❤
ReplyDeleteI am loving this so much!
And it pains me equally...even 20 years after my four legged angel was killed.
Thank you (really) for that, Mimi.
Beautiful piece of writing! My favourite this week.
ReplyDeleteNothing like those squirrels to keep a dog entertained. We all need a half-hour off.
ReplyDeleteOff lead and far from the madding crowd! Wonderfully told, Mimi, and Hunga seems like the perfect companion. ♥️
ReplyDeleteAs hard as you work, half an hour should be a minimum!
ReplyDeleteAlways great stories from you ! Xo
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

A great Six, Mimi. How nice that the dog can run around there!
ReplyDeleteAnd I got my hour off the leash reading this week's batch of sixes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight! I'm gonna pause & join you on the bench and watch the dog (quietly) for a moment or two. Maybe I need a walk in the sun and snowmelt, too!
We all should allow ourselves that little time not in thrall to chores and responsibilities and such. And, as we know, the canine folk are the most excellent of guides in this endeavor.
ReplyDeleteYep. We all need to be let off the leash from time to time! Great story!
