Needing Each Other (Six Sentence Story from the SSC&B)

 ***********************************

Mimi smiled as she watched Hunga out of the corner of her eye while stirring roux.  The dog was pretending to rest on his bed in the corner but the nearer it got to walk time, the more tension his body held.

As if on cue, The Gatekeeper stepped through the swinging kitchen door and Hunga just about exploded in excitement, knowing what was coming next.

Without stopping her stirring, Mimi said, "He's been waiting, and yes, I think he can read the analog clock enough to know when the hands point to walk time, although I’m sure he’d know even without it."

The Gatekeeper nodded and smiled, setting his hand on his friend's head as Mimi stepped away from the stove long enough to grab the leash and hand it to him with an, "Enjoy your walk!"

"We will," he said, and she could see in his eyes he needed this time with Hunga as much as the dog needed time with him.

  1. I've no doubt Hunga can read the analog clock but he doesn't need to, does he? lol.
What is more healing than taking a walk with one's dog?

  2. While I suspect I am reading this earlier than you intended - I love it. Thank you.

  3. At this point I would normally be surprised by the insight into my reality your Six has...but I am not since you have exhibited that more than once.
Indeed, The Gatekeeper does miss Hunga and definitely the SSC&B fellowship...will return after his walk to the Japanese garden of the park.
Therefore, I can only say: Thank you, Mimi.

  5. What a fun Café Six. For the record, our first dog, Ola had a sense of time in that she would wake us up in the morning at time neither sun-related nor any other external cues. Her method was to sit upright at the side of the bed and stare me awake. A very evolved GSD

  7. "and she could see in his eyes he needed this time with Hunga as much as the dog needed time with him." This is a great concluding line for this story.
