Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts that encourages us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by River at Drifting Through Life.

This week's words are:

1. bathroom
2. parasol
3. furniture
4. duck
5. phone
6. puzzle

and/or:

1. wade
2. grim
3. barge
4. sporadic
5. pizza
6. burial

Detective Clegg grabbed another slice of PIZZA and shook his head.  He'd been relying on fast food way too much lately, and had to face the GRIM fact that he was regaining the weight he'd worked so hard to lose.  His hours had become way too SPORADIC again in the wake of this latest case for him to continue cooking the healthy meals he'd fought to learn to make.

Turning to the papers on his cluttered desk, he tried to once again WADE through the reports and make some sense of the PUZZLE.  A gruesome BURIAL of the victim with a PARASOL clutched in his hand.  FURNITURE overturned into the strangest pattern, obviously done on purpose.

His lower tract chose that moment to BARGE in on his reverie with an insistence that could not be denied, so he decided to head for the evidence room and look at the objects recovered from the scene and DUCK into the BATHROOM on the way.

The moment he opened the men's room door, his PHONE rang.  "Of course!" he thought, glancing at the screen and hoping he could ignore it for the moment and return the call.  No such luck.

"Clegg," he said, and listened while one of the investigators said, "We found a second victim buried in the yard.  We're pretty sure it's his ex-wife."

"I'll be down there as soon as I can," he said, knowing that it was going to be another long afternoon.

A small correction from a pedantic Dane ;)
"Orkney and Shetland are pawned by Norway to Scotland so King Christian I can pay his daughter's dowry, 1472"
Norway should be Denmark and Norway as it was a double monarcy at that time ;)

  15. Uh-Oh, TWO murders. Great use of the words. Every time I look at the list I'm reminded how long it's been since I had any pizza. Almost a year. I hope Inspector Gregg doesn't suffer too much from his pizza.
