Manageable (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy's Poetry Day, and Brian's Thankful Thursday

"Mom, everything's okay, but I wanted to let you know what happened to me today," began #1 Son, which means there's been a mishap of some sort, never welcome news.

"I'd just gotten back from kickboxing class and was taking a right-hand turn into my own driveway when someone sideswiped me trying to go around me, it was this kid, maybe seventeen, and he got out of his car yelling, 'Oh, no, this is the third wreck I've had in a year and my mom's gonna kill me!' and then he started trying to punch me!"

By this time, i'd started breathing once more, and #1 Son went on as he does in these situations, "I didn't want to lay a finger on him because he looked underage and I had boxing gloves in my car and I didn't want the police to get a wrong idea, so I ran away from him and kept him at a distance and called the police, and when they showed up one officer looked at the kid and said, 'You again!' and then the kid tried to fight the police!"

It sounds like he needs his keys taken away, i noted drily when i could get a word in, and #1 Son answered, "Yeah, I know, this kid first said it was my fault, that I pulled into the wrong lane, but it was obvious what happened and then he kept saying, 'But he was going so slow!' and of course I was driving slowly, I had my signal on and was taking a right turn into my own driveway!"

Well, at least no one was hurt, i noted, and he continued, "Yeah, and my car is fine, there's only cosmetic damage and I can still drive it to work, but it's my new used car and it was pristine and had no damage or anything and now it has a dent and a cracked mirror and I already called the insurance -- he has insurance, by the way, a lot of them don't -- and it's just that it's going to be a mess to get it all taken care of, but I'm okay."

After all that, all this mama can say is, it's a mess, all right, but as messes go, it's manageable.
