"Mom, everything's okay, but I wanted to let you know what happened to me today," began #1 Son, which means there's been a mishap of some sort, never welcome news.
"I'd just gotten back from kickboxing class and was taking a right-hand turn into my own driveway when someone sideswiped me trying to go around me, it was this kid, maybe seventeen, and he got out of his car yelling, 'Oh, no, this is the third wreck I've had in a year and my mom's gonna kill me!' and then he started trying to punch me!"
By this time, i'd started breathing once more, and #1 Son went on as he does in these situations, "I didn't want to lay a finger on him because he looked underage and I had boxing gloves in my car and I didn't want the police to get a wrong idea, so I ran away from him and kept him at a distance and called the police, and when they showed up one officer looked at the kid and said, 'You again!' and then the kid tried to fight the police!"
It sounds like he needs his keys taken away, i noted drily when i could get a word in, and #1 Son answered, "Yeah, I know, this kid first said it was my fault, that I pulled into the wrong lane, but it was obvious what happened and then he kept saying, 'But he was going so slow!' and of course I was driving slowly, I had my signal on and was taking a right turn into my own driveway!"
Well, at least no one was hurt, i noted, and he continued, "Yeah, and my car is fine, there's only cosmetic damage and I can still drive it to work, but it's my new used car and it was pristine and had no damage or anything and now it has a dent and a cracked mirror and I already called the insurance -- he has insurance, by the way, a lot of them don't -- and it's just that it's going to be a mess to get it all taken care of, but I'm okay."
After all that, all this mama can say is, it's a mess, all right, but as messes go, it's manageable.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
I've got a great collection
and I want it to be seen,
so I mounted them all to make
this really cool machine.
I park in a garage at night,
drive only if weather's good,
my mechanic knows, be careful
when you look under the hood!

Good thing your #1 son is alright and his car is only slightly dented. He did great by getting out of the teenage way and calling the police to the scene.
ReplyDeleteLong live fences.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Ugh, the hassle of it all with such an accident. It is time consuming and your property is damaged. The kid could care less. Hopefully it can all be taken care of quickly and forgotten.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that car is amazing. Wouldn't the things on the car come off when the person drives down the road?
ReplyDeleteHave a great day Mimi.
Cruisin Paul
Great story and so nice to see Mardi Gras reminder photos ~ good thankful too ~ Xo

If only all messes were manageable! As for that car, WOW!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame about your son's car. He kept his cool, though, which can be hard when confronted with a difficult person. He is to be commended for that. I hope the insurance pays up without any issues.
ReplyDeleteSorry your son has to go thru the issues of car repair when none of it was his doing. I hit a car a few years ago and still feel guilty that she would have to arrange ways to work while getting hers fixed. Light damage but I know work shops take time to get into and out of.
ReplyDeleteMessyMimi sure knows how to handle a mess.
ReplyDeleteThe teddybear car though...brings another dimension in vehicular sefery!
Cute poem. Your son sounds very sweet to not fight back and just run away from the kid. That kid sounds like he definitely should not be driving for a long time. XO
ReplyDeleteGlad the damage is only cosmetic, but that is bad enough. As my husband says, cars can be replaced or repaired, people can't.
ReplyDeleteGold star. Hoping the story is not true?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your son wasn't hurt and that it wasn't anything really serious. He should have slapped that brat silly though. Cute poem and a good thankful too! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteThat first dent, always such a let down.*
ReplyDeleteNice use of reality in a prescribed format story-telling.
We all have those days when we think, maybe I shoulda stayed in bed.
*not including ambulance-level accidents
Not sure "all's well that ends well" is quite appropriate in this instance but...maybe a little? lol It's a huge disappointment when someone else damages your new car whether "used new" or brand new.
ReplyDeleteTeddy Bear car? Thought I'd seen everything, lol but enjoyed your poem inspired by it.
Attic adventures sound less stressful than "road" adventures 😉
quality bred cockroaches? A big race? That is one thing I could avoid.
ReplyDeleteThe plushie car is a real headturner! Glad N°1 son is okay. I was wondering what 'Messy'Mimi would make of this week's Six prompt seeing as it was 'mess'. 😁
ReplyDeleteA manageable mess is the best kind of mess.
ReplyDeleteLove the car! And any potentially messy auto accidents would just bounce off it!
ReplyDeleteGreat Six, and a humorous poem!
ReplyDeleteHA! Your poem for that stuffy-covered car is PERFECT.....imagine all the grease the garage would get on those stuffies too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam
Ohmyword, someone definitely has issues! Your son is smart to stay right out of reach! It's always sad when a pristine car gets its first damage. :(
ReplyDeleteGreat poem. Yow! Can't imagine driving that car!
