It doesn't happen often, but when it does, i handle it the same way, if i am able to do so.
As i'm at a gas pump filling my car, someone will pull up and ask for help buying gas, always with some story of why the help is needed.
If i have enough money to buy them some, i always tell them the same thing: i am a believer, and because Jesus told us to do a good turn to others when we can, for His sake, i'll buy them some gas.
Then i give them warning, they need to remember, if they are telling the truth and really are in need, this will be a blessing to them, and if they are lying, He'd going to require it at their hands.
I've never had anyone turn me down. Once they have what they need, i leave them in the very capable hands of the Almighty.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
He'd gone on a vacation,
spent two weeks having fun,
and when he came on back to work
he wondered what he'd done.
His desk was piled with mail which came
to him while he was away,
and he just stopped at wondered
and he stared with great dismay.
Then he got an idea
how to handle all this stuff,
he went and got some trash bags,
the kind that are thick and tough.
The mail did fill six whole bags,
and he set them to the side,
he would tackle one each two days,
any more he could not abide.
He spent the day in meetings,
and went home with that plan,
but one thing he didn't count on
was the wonderful janitor man.
The janitor came in that night
and saw what he thought was trash,
so of course he threw it out,
the act wasn't really rash.
When he came back next morning,
he almost had a fit!
He tried to track the bags down,
but there was no finding it.
He simply carried on with work,
nothing else that he could do,
and in the next few weeks found out
an important thing or two.
Of all that mail he'd lost he only
had six pieces he'd really needed,
all the rest was simply junk,
no work was by their loss impeded.
He got two checks reissued,
got two calls to hurry and RSVP,
one duplicate request for info,
one second request to meet.
This taught him a great lesson
and i think we all could learn,
just a few things are important,
all the rest are things you can spurn.
(Based on a true story.)

That's a lovely thing you do. I can't see anyone out here doing it, petrol is way too expensive.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kindness.
ReplyDeleteLove your poem - and yes I could learn from that. I should learn from that.
Great story. The same goes for email, most of it can just be deleted which leaves the few important emails to be dealt with. Mom has never ever had anyone at a gas station ask for gas money, not even when we are traveling.
ReplyDeleteI've never met people asking for money for gas - maybe because most gas stations are money free, and you pay with card. But quite often i meet people asking for money for train tickets, beer, or even food. I alway give, if I have to spare, thinking it is all part of a divine household account.
ReplyDeleteAh ... fences. The second photo has an invisible fence. Is it made of glass?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Well done!
ReplyDeleteI've not received a similar request, but If I do I'll remember this! The last verse of the poem is so true.
ReplyDeleteI've not had that at the pump experience. You have a great way of handling the requests.
ReplyDeletelove it... pass it on or maybe, lend it forward but not without requiring the recipient to engage first
ReplyDeletev cool

ReplyDeleteThat was a funny poem. You are very kind to help people with gas. XO
ReplyDeleteYou are kind and perhaps helpful in more than one way. For some, you've given them something to consider.
ReplyDeleteYou poem! Talk about panic attack, lol
A most awesome thankful. Have fun!
Wonderful post and fences are great photos ~ You, my dear are an angel to all ~ blessings and hugs,
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
