In Better Hands Than Mine (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy’s Poetry Day and Brian’s Thankful Thursday

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, i handle it the same way, if i am able to do so.

As i'm at a gas pump filling my car, someone will pull up and ask for help buying gas, always with some story of why the help is needed.

If i have enough money to buy them some, i always tell them the same thing:  i am a believer, and because Jesus told us to do a good turn to others when we can, for His sake, i'll buy them some gas.

Then i give them warning, they need to remember, if they are telling the truth and really are in need, this will be a blessing to them, and if they are lying, He'd going to require it at their hands.

I've never had anyone turn me down.  Once they have what they need, i leave them in the very capable hands of the Almighty.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day!  This week's image and my poem:    

He'd gone on a vacation,

spent two weeks having fun,

and when he came on back to work

he wondered what he'd done.

His desk was piled with mail which came

to him while he was away,

and he just stopped at wondered

and he stared with great dismay.

Then he got an idea

how to handle all this stuff,

he went and got some trash bags,

the kind that are thick and tough.

The mail did fill six whole bags,

and he set them to the side,

he would tackle one each two days,

any more he could not abide.

He spent the day in meetings,

and went home with that plan,

but one thing he didn't count on

was the wonderful janitor man.

The janitor came in that night

and saw what he thought was trash,

so of course he threw it out,

the act wasn't really rash.

When he came back next morning,

he almost had a fit!

He tried to track the bags down,

but there was no finding it.

He simply carried on with work,

nothing else that he could do,

and in the next few weeks found out

an important thing or two.

Of all that mail he'd lost he only

had six pieces he'd really needed,

all the rest was simply junk,

no work was by their loss impeded.

He got two checks reissued,

got two calls to hurry and RSVP,

one duplicate request for info,

one second request to meet.

This taught him a great lesson

and i think we all could learn,

just a few things are important,

all the rest are things you can spurn.
