Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.    

This month, i am providing the prompts.  You can write your story on your blog and leave a link here, or write your story in the comments, your choice.

Feel free to use some, all, or none of the prompts.  The whole point is to get us writing, so please have fun with it!

Stepping out onto the balcony of his condo, Frank took a swig of his coffee and noted in passing that the fog was obscuring the view across the river.

This case was still being a BEAR to solve, kind of like the puzzlement that had been his last GIRLFRIEND.  He couldn't figure her out, and he couldn't figure this new widow out, either.

She was running hot and cold, this one.  Sometimes she seemed to actually be missing her husband, and sometimes she acted like she could not care less.  He'd surreptitiously watched her as she threw away some of her late husband's things with  what seemed great HOSTILITY.  He'd watched her go back to the graveyard a couple of times and just stand quietly, raising a tissue to her eyes on occasion.

One of his street informants said he'd overheard her telling a friend she was planning to move back EAST.  Then he got a tip she was seen at the HARDWARE store, buying the types of supplies you'd need to do repairs around the house.

Something still wasn't adding up, even as the coroner kept him abreast of the latest lab results as they trickled in.

Frank hated hitting a brick WALL in an investigation this way, and he knew he had to clear the fog from this case the way the sun was going to burn the fog off of the river.   He had one last trick he was going to try.  He'd head down to the file room when he got to work, start looking through other unsolved crimes.  For some reason, it sometimes sparked a stray thought that moved him past being stuck.

It was worth a try, he had little else to go on in this one.
