I Look Up and It’s Thankful Day, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

I'm looking up on Thankful Day and wondering what happened this week.

I'm thankful for blog friends who are patient, i seem to be chronically behind in my reading as i've been working so much i have less time for reading.  I am trying to catch up.

Last week, The Big Boss called and warned Sweetie there was supposed to be a terrible fog over the spillway bridge and warning me to not go that way to NOLA.  I watched for fog, and was thankful there was none, so i took the usual route and got down there in good time.

Sweetie brought home a "take and bake" pizza from the store for supper one evening, a very rare purchase for him.  It was an 18-inch, which is way too big for our small oven, and he told me he only wanted half anyway.  I cut it into quarters and baked a quarter at a time.  I'm thankful i was able to do that, and since "he can't believe he ate the whole thing," i'm also thankful he didn't make himself sick.  He hasn't had more than one or two small pizza slices at a time in years.

Ms. A was still not fully recovered this past Sunday, so i was thankful to be able to stay at the church and bring her home myself.

Sunday night i did not sleep well, i'm thankful i did not oversleep Monday morning as i had quite a crazy day ahead.

Because i didn't oversleep, i was thankful to get Ms. G's cat and critter duty done before going to Carl's so i didn't have to stop in the middle.

Carl's place went mostly like clockwork, in spite of his being off work, a huge thankful.

Ms. S's place the same, no surprises, drips, runs or errors.

Then i met up with Sweetie at Ms. GA's house to do the work i wasn't able to do Friday because granddaughter was sick with a horrible stomach virus.  I'm always thankful to make up for lost work.

Then came the panic moment.  Sweetie had gone and i was finishing up, stepped out the door juggling my big bag, the garbage, the recycling, and other stuff.  I'd had to park across the street at the neighbors (i'm thankful they let me), so i set the big bag down on the porch, tied off the garbage and dropped it and the recycling at their respective bins, loaded the car and came home.

Then realized i'd forgotten the bag.

At that moment, i wasn't sure where i'd left it, and i was afraid it would be on the ground next to the street, by the place where i'd parked, and it might be gone by the time i got back there.

I was thankful traffic wasn't too horrible, i made great time getting back, and the bag was safe and sound on the porch by the door.  Mr. BA was watering the yard, so the whole time i was driving back and panicked, he was right where he would have noticed if someone had come on his porch to take something.

Ms. V and i went to the ladies' circle meeting together on Tuesday and i'm thankful we had a nice talk together on the way then had a good time enjoying seeing all the renovations at the place we meet.  It's a Senior Living community where about half of our circle ladies live, so it's easier to meet there and the common areas were redone beautifully.

By Wednesday my lack of sleep was starting to tell on me, so i'm thankful we wrapped up early at Ms. G's Wednesday (she was back in town) because she had an appointment.  It meant i got to rest with my feet up for a while.

The Big Boss's wife has struck again, buying new bedding.  I'm thankful they took the old stuff, which is less than a year old, had it professionally cleaned and gave it to us.  The comforter is huge and pretty and will be perfect for winter.

The cat shelter went well both times this week.  There have been adoptions and surgeries are keeping up with sending them home quickly.  We're thankful for that and for the fundraiser this past weekend (i was in NOLA), it was the best ever.

While i originally wrote this poem for Poetry Monday on Memorial Day, i think it fits here, too.

We hope for no more war,

we pray for peace to reign,

for hatred is so evil,

and murder is insane.

We pray for no more madmen,

maniacs spoiling to fight,

wicked in their wanting

to destroy what's good and right.

We pray for all these things to end,

but until they really do,

we pray the Lord will always send

heroes just like you.

A big, heartfelt thank you to all who have served.
