Sunday Selections was started as a way for bloggers to use photos that might otherwise just languish in their files.  The rules have been relaxed, and it is now simply a showcase for your photos, new or old, good or bad, although nothing rude, please.  It was hosted by River, who still participates, and is now hosted by Elephant's Child.

Ups, Downs and Sideways, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

It's been another mixed week here, the ups, the downs, the sideways you didn't see coming, and there is something to be thankful for in it all.

Last week #2 Son casually said, "You still have this Saturday on your calendar for the concert we're going to, right?"

Having totally forgotten they were going to a concert at all, i simply nodded and asked what time i needed to come over to take care of the baby.

I'm thankful the time he said was plenty late enough for us to get our work done in NOLA and get the rental car returned.

I'm thankful all that went well, too, and thankful we reserved a car for the next week as well.

The evening was a delight, feeding little Annie and playing with her, singing her down to sleep for the night.  I was thankful even i was able to catch a catnap and they weren't out too much after midnight.

Sunday went well, we had a happy Sunday walk with Mr. Cal where he met up with some of his doggie friends for part of the way.

While cleaning for Ms. S on Monday (after Carl), i received the sad news Ms. JAI's funeral would be on Thursday when i had doctor appointments i could not break.  I was thankful a mutual friend agreed to let me drop of a card for the family telling them how sad I am she's gone and explaining why i could not be there.

We also had a problem with the electricity, which is where the sideways comes in.  It went out, the generator kicked in, then the power came back on from the electric company and the generator stopped, just as it should, but the parts of the house connected to the generator went down, even though they should not.

I was thankful to be on my way home when it happened.  It was a complete mystery to me, but on a whim i put the generator on manual and was very thankful when the lights came back up.  Leaving the generator that way, i called the service company and was thankful to hear they'd have someone out on Tuesday.

Of course, on Tuesday i was with our little Annie all day and we were the last stop for the generator service guy, but we were thankful he didn't put us off another day.  He was totally flummoxed why the regular service wouldn't flow through to the portion of the house the generator is on without the generator running.  He finally found the problem, thankfully, and by flipping the main breaker a few times he was able to restore service to the house.

The problem, unfortunately, was the need for a replacement transfer switch box, which is going to cost roughly about half of what our current debt is, which we were on our way to repaying by early next year.  We had to add this to that debt load, putting us behind again, but we are thankful it will be fixed when the part comes in and no more wondering if the electricity will function without the generator running.

Wednesday was another busy one with Ms. G, we got through sorting the leftovers from the garage sale and we are both thankful it's done, i'm thankful we found two coffee cups which she said i could have.  Someone (Brother-in-Law) around here is clumsy and tends to break cups.

I was very thankful Mr. L and Ms. V got up early enough on Thursday i was able to finish with their house in almost record time and got to my doctor appointments a bit early.

This is an appointment i'd scheduled over a month ago to follow up on some concerns Dr. BowTie had with certain results of tests he had run back in July, and waiting longer wouldn't be prudent if something were to be wrong.  This doctor did an ultrasound and a scope and found nothing wrong, and i'm thankful all is well.

Friday at prayer group went well, i got the errands run and got to the house to babysit in plenty of time, and i was thankful Daughter-in-Law finished her work early so my Sweetie and i could go get the rental.

We were very glad one was available as the nice lady who'd promised she made a reservation for us last week had not done so!

Once i got to the cat shelter that evening, we were thankful for many extra volunteers.  Since many hands make light work, they got to shut the place down 10 minutes early and all go home, the staff is always thankful when it happens.
