Off and on for about the past 40+ years, i have tried to learn to speak Spanish.
It has become a personal challenge, as i want to be able to say that i can speak more than one language. There's no reasonable reason why i cannot learn. Heaven knows i've tried.
There's a mental block somewhere, and i want to get over and around it. Thirty days of consistent practice may be a good start, at least i hope so.
Somewhere in the back of my brain, i am certain, is a memory from when i was a small child. It's so old, it's not a conscious memory. In it, i'm sure i picked up on the fact that a significant adult in my life was jealous of others who could speak a second language. It has left me with that mental block, thinking i'm bad or will disappoint someone if i learn another language.
That block has to go. Starting this month, i am going to tell my subconscious it's okay for me to learn, and keep telling myself until i believe it.
On a totally different topic, if you are in the US, and you haven't voted early, get yourself to the polls today. Too many people fought to give you that right, especially if you are a woman, for you to simply blow it off.
#1 Son says we are trying to decide between a turd sandwich and a douche bag. Bigger Girl calls it a contest between a plucked chicken with more stuffed up her *ss than a Thanksgiving turkey and the result of an unfortunate mating incident between Scrooge McDuck and a tribble-headed troll.
Yes, i think we are all going 3rd party here. Doesn't matter what we are doing, you decide for yourself. Get out there and vote.

I like this challenge. It's not very often we think of ourselves. More of that needed. There are so many things I'd like to do for myself that always get pushed back due to one thing or another. I'll certainly put some thought into this challenge. How exciting. A 'me!me!me!' daily task. Cool!
ReplyDeletealready voted. good luck with the spanish!
ReplyDeleteThank God I'm a Canadian so that I don't have to vote today in the states. I will say one thing though, Trump scares the heck out of me being the Canadian who lives right across from Michigan ( The Detroit River - Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada ) Enjoy your Tuesday my friend. See ya.

Hola messimimiita, te yamo Cranky, y habla Espanol un poco solomente.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with everything. And your idea of working on that mental block is a good one.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to learn another language, even though I have trouble at times with English.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy with English, although Spanish is spoken more than English where I live.
ReplyDeleteI'll be voting later this morning. Not going third party here. That's a vote for Hillary and I can't do that.
Have a fabulous day. ☺
I have studied Clinton's activities over the years, read some of the reports on her investigations and find she is a good person who has been railroaded for many, many years by men with agendas. Regarding language, the best way to learn is hours of immersion. Maybe you could rent some movies in Spanish...movies that you know.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I voted. I am sure youtube has lots of videos to help you with Spanish. Good luck! My Mom told me to take Spanish in high school, but I took French. I am sure I would have gotten more out of the Spanish.
ReplyDeleteGood for you!! Hola!! Que pasa? Cómo estás? Estoy cansado. There - that's the lot of my Spanish. Ha And I can ask for the pool and tell someone I'm drunk; which interestingly enough, are totally related to why I learned them. Misspent youth ;)
ReplyDeleteBut yes brain - let her learn a new language. It's a great thing and I am very glad in Canada we learn the Le Language in school. I am incredibly rusty in French due to being home so long, but I find I can still read it no problem.
I'm tired because I was watching your election. How even did that happen?
