Every Friday, i go to Ms. G A's house. She has cats everywhere, mostly rescues, many half feral. Then there's Abby, one of the sweetest and friendliest cats ever to exist. Abby is so laid back, she sleeps even if i am vacuuming under the couch cushion she is lying on!
Abby, snoozing while i vacuum around her. |

Friendly Fill-Ins are easy to do. There are four statements: the first two statements are provided by Ellen of 15AndMeowing, and the final two are offered by McGuffy Ann Morris of McGuffy's Reader. They try to make sure the statements will be fun to both answer and share. The linky will be posted at or about 12:00 AM on Friday. Please head over to one of their sites, link up, and share your thoughts!
My fill-ins for the statements are underlined:
Week 40: February 10, 2017
1. My favorite kind of cookie is ________________.
2. ____________________would play me in a movie about my life.
3. Love is _________________.
4. For Valentine's Day, I ___________________.
1. My favorite kind of cookie is white chocolate cherry shortbread cookies. Someone made these for Grandpa this past Christmas but he is watching his sugar intake, so he gave them to us. Little Girl tasted one, stopped in shock and grabbed two more, and said, "This is the best thing I have ever put in my mouth." Upon taking a bite (they are not on my normal list of things i eat), i agreed with her.*
2. ___________________ would play me in a movie about my life. This one is blank because i have no clue. If any of you have any ideas about someone who wouldn't mind playing a short gray-haired church lady who cleans houses, go ahead and suggest that person in the comments.
3. Love is a decision and an action. The emotion of love is often only infatuation.
4. For Valentine's Day, i go to work. Unless it's a Sunday, then i go to church. Sweetie and i don't make a big deal out of such things.
*recipe for White Chocolate Cherry Shortbread Cookies
1/2 cup maraschino cherries (drain and reserve the juice, chop the cherries finely and drain on paper towels)
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 sticks butter
4 ounces white baking chocolate, finely chopped
extra white baking chocolate melted for dipping
Preheat your oven to 325°F.
In a large bowl, combine flour and sugar. Use a pastry blender or two knives to cut in the butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in the drained and dried cherries and the chopped white chocolate.
Stir in the almond extract, then start adding the reserved cherry juice a bit at a time, mixing with your hands until it just comes together.
Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten the balls with the bottom of a drinking glass that's been dipped in sugar.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until the centers are set. Cool for a minute on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. Once they are cool enough to handle, dip half the cookie into the melted white chocolate.
These can be refrigerated for up to three days, but don't expect them to last that long.

I can't believe there's a cat who sleeps through vacuuming! I think sweet & funny Betty White could play you in a movie. Those cherry/white chocolate cookies sound fabulous! Have a lovely weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteMessy Mim, Mmm, that cookie recipe sounds good. I'm going to save it for a future bake. I'm sure DH won't mind testing them out. His middle name is "Cookie Monster". lol I like the way you described love. Sadly, it's often an infatuation. True love take work. You don't bail in times of trouble big or small, you work through the mess - mending wounds and rebuilding the relationship. Thanks for sharing all this day in history facts at the end. Nice fill-in responses. Have a funtastic day and weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteAww! Abby seems very easy going heheh!
ReplyDeleteCan I have a cookie please heheh!
Have a cookietastic day :-)
Abby might be deaf. I've never seen a cat who doesn't fear the vacuum cleaner.
ReplyDeleteI think Meryl Streep can play you in the movie of your life. She can play anyone.
Those cookies sound devine. They make me wish I were a better baker.
Abby is adorable and so brave. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I agree infatuation is often mistaken as love. I have also learned over time that pity can be mistaken for it too. Thank you for sharing your recipe, those sound great. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteAbby is my kind of kitty. Laid back that is.
ReplyDeleteThat cookie sounds mighty good.
Hubby and I don't make a big deal about Valentine's Day either. It's Valentine's Day all year long.
Have a purrfect Feline Friday, my friend. ☺
Oh, wow! Abby is awesome! Chloe Jo usually does not mind. I thought of Vicki Lawrence as Mama, when you described the grey haired church lady. Ha! It would have to be someone special to play you.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies sound really good! I will check those out, for Bill, of course. *wink*
I agree that many mistake infatuation for love, That is why divorce is so common. Real love is all about action and commitment. You and Sweetie share that every day.
Thanks for joining us each week. We appreciate you. HUGS.
What a good kitty! Lucy leaves the room in a huff! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteAbby is one of the most laid back kitty. She enjoys her sleep more than anything.
ReplyDeleteOur cats totally disappear when the vacuum cleaner comes out. I don't even have to switch it on for them to flee.
ReplyDeleteI've never known a cat that didn't hate vacuum cleaners so this is unusual.
ReplyDeleteI love your cat very much
ReplyDeleteAbby can snooze even while you are vacuuming? Wow, what a fantastic cat. See ya Mimi.
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
The cookies sound delicious. I copied and pasted.
ReplyDeleteI love mellow kitties! The cookie recipe does sound yummy, I have printed it out to try. I don't know who would play me either, I really don't follow actors/actresses that well, and I can't think of any famous ones who resemble me. :-) I agree with you about love, it's not an emotion, it's a belief and a commitment, it is a work in progress. We keep Valentine's Day very low key, usually sharing a dinner out a day or two before or after to avoid the inflated prices, and maybe sharing a box of chocolates or a special dessert. Papa Bear is the only Valentine I want or need! <3
