Told You The Dryer Vent Was Disconnected! (Wordless Wednesday) and Slice of Today's Life (Words for Wednesday)

Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by Lissa.

This week's prompts are:

1. 'If you feel like screaming, be my guest'
2. 'There is something different about you'

“Claudia?”

"Desiree, is that you?  Wow, I haven't seen you in forever!"

"I know!  And with these masks, sometimes I don't even recognize people, so I wasn't even sure it was you.  Makes me want to scream sometimes, having to wear these things."

"Well, if you feel like screaming, be my guest.  In fact, I might come outside and join you, everything can be so frustrating these days.  How have you been?"

"Oh, the usual.  Or maybe it's the unusual these days.  Working from home, Mike was working from home but he's back now, the boys did their second semester of college from home, so we are trying not to kill each other.  Looks like they get to go back for some of the classes this next semester, so that will take some of the pressure off of us.  How about you?  There's something different about you."

"It's the hair, see?  I cut it all off!  Well, my daughter did it for me, actually.  We both got a wild notion one evening when we were bored, and she suggested we play     'beauty shop' like when she was a kid, only with real scissors.  It's grown back some, but boy, did it look funny when she got through with it!"

"You look great with it short!  Mine was out of hand, I'm so glad they are letting us go to salons, even if it's not quite the same.  Look, I've got to get this shopping done, those boys are home and ravenous all of the time, so I have a list as long as my arm, but I do want us to get coffee soon at The Cafe.  They're letting people sit outside, and if we go early in the morning, it won't get too hot."

"I'd like that, too.  I only ever talk to patients, coworkers, or my daughter, I need to sit and have a grown-up non-work conversation before I go batty."

"It's a date, then!  I'll text and we'll work out which morning next week."

"See you then!"

  4. A disconnected dryer vent is not good. I can see the lint and fuzz blowing all over the place!

  5. Nice story. Grown up conversation over a cup of coffee sounds just right.

  6. Mimi,

Our dryer vent goes into the garage, which I hate but years ago DH had the clever idea of placing one leg of pair of pantyhose over the vent. This keeps the dust out of the garage as long as it doesn't become too full and pull off. Our next place I hope the vent goes completely outside the house. Of course what happened to yours on the inside can be a problem anytime. Fabulous job on the world prompts with this week's short story. Have a wonderful day, my friend!

  7. I just might have breakfast for dinner and rustle up some waffles, just to celebrate National Waffle Day. I always enjoyed the Andy Capp comic strip.

  8. I've had the vent not hooked up too and if you're doing lots of laundry it doesn't take long to figure that out.

Love your use of the prompts. Yes it's life right now and the short haircut resonated with me. Our salon was closed for months and when I went back I went for very short. It's a good thing because it closed again. It's now back open, but for how long?

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Big hug. ♥

  15. Great story, though I wouldn't trust any of my family anywhere near my hair with a pair of scissors! Nice to see Eleanor Rigby and Yellow Submarine getting a mention. The Beatles were a big part of my youth.
