Denote This (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy’s Poetry Day and Brian’s Thankful Thursday

 ***********************************

"It's often a matter of connotation versus denotation," he said in what I always called his "pretentious lecturer voice."

"You need good balance to remain upright, for example, and that denotation is rather straightforward.  Then there is the connotation of "work/life balance," and everyone means something a little different by it.

"When you say you are 'balancing,' exactly what are you meaning?  And is there any way I can help you?"

"I mean I am balancing my checkbook, and yes, you can help by sitting down and drawing in the slack of your jaw for once and being quiet so I'm not tempted to balance on one foot and kick you out the door with the other!"

Linking up with Denise at Girlie On The Edge Blog, where she hosts Six Sentence Stories, and the cue is Balance.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day This week's image and my poem:

You just cannot leave

the story unfinished 'til

dawn it will not wait

*******

The story is so exciting

you just can't let it stay,

it'll haunt your dreams all night,

you'll think of nothing else all day.

You couldn't wait to learn

the joy of the written word,

now you sneak read at each turn,

stay up 'til you're eyes are blurred.

You do it for love of the stories,

and when this one is through,

you'll scour the library again,

it's almost like breathing to you!
