"We can link the tablet to your phone," he was saying, "and then you can do all the cool things your friend Mrs. Marion does and then some!"
She smiled at him and asked, "How did my little boy grow up to be so very good with this technology?"
"It's not that hard, mom, you know I like math and science."
"Yes, and you are getting better at those all the time while some of your other studies suffer."
"Mom, sooner or later we both have to face the fact that I'm just not cut out to study music because I'm not a musician like my dad, I want to be a doctor like your dad."
"Having you study music was my way of trying to link you to your father, but you are right," she sighed deeply and added, "it's not working."

ReplyDeleteI am glad the boy has an understanding mother. Pretty gate and fence. Have a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteSometimes kids just don't connect. You can't force it. Good job on this.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I didn't expect his mom to have a change of heart so quickly.
ReplyDeleteParents can offer guidance but for a person to be truly happy they must pursue their own dreams.
ReplyDeleteI love your ongoing story. Kids want to follow their path, not someone else. Love it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your vacation. ☺
I am glad he voiced his preferred field and she acquiesced.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful story, Mimi.
It is a very wise mother who understands the desires of her son's heart and accepts that he must follow his own path in life rather than the one she might choose for him. Very good story, Mimi!
ReplyDeleteI love American white fences in Europe white are not common
ReplyDeleteSo often kids are pointed in the wrong direction by pushy parents. Thankfully he was not. Lobster for supper methinks!
ReplyDeleteA different type of story. Looks like you are having a gorgeous and peaceful time.
ReplyDeletealways a gift (to all) when a person accepts (and claims) their true calling.
ReplyDeleteLuckily he had a mind of his own and knew the right path to take in his career. I like to imagine what if he had complied with his mother's wish and later on found he really had chosen the wrong career. That would be really sad.
ReplyDeleteAs much as people sometimes hope, we don't always connect with particular relatives, parents, etc. Best thing anyone can do is accept each individual for who they are and honor their preferences. To do otherwise is terribly detrimental in the end.
ReplyDeleteNational Lobster Day - didn't know that, but glad I do now!
Hopefully he and his father can make connections in other ways to strengthen their relationship.
ReplyDeleteGreat SSS.
