Hooray for rEcess! (Ten Things of Thankful)

(Because some people like Blogger and some like WordPress, i am putting the same content at both.  If you would prefer to read this on the other site, it is linked here.)

***********************************

rEcess has started again!!!

Can you tell i'm excited?

(For any who might not yet know, rEcess is a program where we gather volunteers at the church to babysit children with severe special needs and their siblings so the parents can have a date night.  You can't leave a wheelchair bound kid who needs a feeding tube with the teen up the street so you can go out to dinner and a movie, thus rEcess with trained adult volunteers.  The parents do not have to pay for the babysitting, either.)

My thankfulness this week is all about rEcess.

Our cool volunteer t-shirts:

Food for the volunteers (because of allergies and other considerations, parents have to bring food for their kids):

Jeff forgot duct tape, but i had some in the car:

Our assignment sheet:

The sign in table:

An overflowing art supplies bin for crafts time:

Getting our name tags:

Game time in the gym:

Obstacle course out on the playground:

Peggy has a cool new walker:

If you think we had a great time, you are right!

Please join us and our gracious and wonderful hostess Kristi from ThankfulMe, write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful.

  1. What an absolutely brilliant idea. I suspect that the respite that it gives to families is a life saver - and everyone looks to be having a heap of fun too.

  2. I like the idea. A great way for the parents and care giver to have a getaway, giving them a short relief from the full time care they are giving to these kids. Thank God for such kind and caring volunteers too!

  11. Amazing and wonderful program. I am sure it is a blessing for both sides. Having a roll of purple duct tape in the car made me think of Let's Make a Deal when Monte Hall would have people dig up the most random stuff from their purses!

  12. Love all the photos showing your rEcess activities! Is rEcess a local program? It would be interesting the history of the organization, how it got started, etc.
