It was going to be a regular eye exam, but something went sideways.
While my primary doctor disagrees, i think it was the dilation eye drops used to examine my eyes thoroughly.
The optometrist used those drops and pronounced my eyes in good shape, except for my growing cataracts, which we already knew about and which are not bad enough to require surgery yet.
As the day went on, i started to itch, and eventually my whole forehead swelled up, my eyelids were swelling shut, i had hives.
Something triggered a powerful allergic reaction, that's certain, and whether it was those dilation drops or an unidentified something else, i ended up on prednisone to get it under control.
It better have been the eye drops, because if it was something else, this might turn out to be an ongoing battle, and i hate to be the battle field.

I came down here to meet him,

I had to drop the basket,
Could not believe my eyes,
I hadn't called to be sure he docked,
So it's a shocking surprise.
That looks like his boat foundering,
After he should have been already in,
Picnic nothing, now I just hope
That he'll live to come home again.

ReplyDeleteI hope you are recovering from the allergy. I need to get my eyes check and get a pair of new glasses but we are now under lockdown. Prefer to wait till the lockdown is lifted. I hope the poem has a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the eye drops are the gyilty agent. Finding allergenes is a battle. Could you ask the optometrist to copy the contents lable of the drops he used? Then yo'd know what to aviod.

ReplyDeleteWhat a bummer with your fence. We too hope it was a reaction to the eye drops and not something you will have to figure out and deal with going forward. It sounds scary having such a reaction out of the blue.

ReplyDeleteThat must have been frightening, Mimi. Anything wrong with my eyes sends me into a panic; I use them so much for work and for independence and for enjoyment, as so many folks do. I hope you find out the source of the allergen and can avoid it in future.
