Seeing a Way Forward (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy’s Poetry Day and Brian’s Thankful Thursday

 ***********************************

After my first cataract surgery and having so much trouble with the recovery, as well as hearing some things about my surgeon which were a cause for concern, i was in the market for a new eye doctor.

I’ve found just the one and he gave my right eye a good going over the other day, dilating it thoroughly and checking everything.

It seems the first doctor removed the clouded lens and then put the new lens, not in the lens pocket where it belongs, but in front of it, and while this is sometimes done for legitimate medical reasons, there was no reason to do it in my case and you do not do it with the special astigmatism lens i got as it tends to cause irritation of the iris.

This has resulted in all the irritation in my eye, the slow recovery, the fact my vision is not as good with the new lens as i’d hoped, and the fact my original doctor didn’t do anything to treat the irritation, the inflammation, or any of the other problems is why i’m glad i have a better doctor now.

In fact, the original doctor simply blew me off, said, “You’re fine,” and “You’re making me look good,” neither of which sat well with me when i knew, in fact, it wasn’t fine.

This doctor’s plan is to continue to treat my eye and get it settled before doing cataract surgery in the left eye and if this lens does not settle in and quit irritating the iris of my eye, it may have to be removed and replaced with a standard lens; not the end of the world but certainly not the outcome we wanted.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day This week's image and my poem:

This world is really crowded,

needs more room to breathe,

and maybe we needs less stuff

than we’ve been led to believe.

  1. Oh, bother on the eye-front. Good that you found a new doctor. I hope the lens settles in, and I wish you good luck with the next one.
That photo almost gives me trouble breathing. Your poem nails it.

  2. Love your poem - and agree with it. I am sorry that you had so much trouble with your eye and hope that your new doctor (who sounds excellent) can get on top of it.

  3. The picture and poem are great, we certainly do ned less stuff, but what to give away is often a problem.
I'm glad your new eye doctor is taking all the proper care. Perhaps you can have a new astigmatism lens after all?
I chose not to because I wasn't sure I could afford it. Maybe I should have asked the cost, but it's done now and new reading glasses next month will help.

  4. Gosh, I do hope your eyes are getting better and they stop hurting. I know a few people who have had those cataracts done. All fine now, but it took a couple of weeks before they were properly better.

  5. It is wonderful you finally found an eye doctor that can tell you what his happened and what he will do for you in the future. Praying that this goes well. I am thankful that after 5 days of rain and 6 inches had Sunshine yesterday and I rode my bicycle.

  6. Mom says finding a good dr. is so very important. She had a rotten one when she broke her ankle years ago and he insisted she have surgery and told her there was no option. She did not want surgery. After searching on her own she found another doctor. That one told her there was no need for surgery and she should be doing exercises and stuff, taking off her boot at night, etc. The first doctor did not tell her any of that. It's been eight years and her ankle has been perfectly fine. If you are not sure, find a different doctor who cares about you and not their surgery making money. It is terrible how some doctors can be.

  7. I'm so happy you found another doctor. I fired an entire team of doctors when I had cancer because something just wasn't sitting right with me. We were never on the same page for my treatment, and it was just a negative vibe all around. I wanted to live, and I was not placing my life in their hands. And your first doctor had your sight in his hands and he blew you off like you didn't know or couldn't feel something was off. I'm happy you found a doctor that you could partner with.

I love your poem and it's so true and I'm thankful you found a new doctor too!

  8. I am shocked at not only the actions but the attitude of the first doctor. And I wonder what he's doing to his other patients. Glad, at least, that you've moved on.

    God bless.

  11. I enjoyed your poem!! Very well done according to the mess out there and the last line was spot in! I am so sorry that you went through that with your cataract surgery. Not only a poor doctor who must not be particularly well learned through time but a nay-sayer who says demeaning things regarding how you feel/felt. I am so glad you found another one and though it is hard to have to do , I almost wish you did get another and done the right way. Blessings to you. Today and every day.

  13. ok, right track now... simply feeling that the doctor is competent and listens surely is the best development. like the others I've known people who have had the surgery and, after their own track of recovery, are very happy with the results.

  14. That is just terrible about your first lens implant. Never should have happened that way. We are glad you have a new doctor that you have confidence in. We hope he can make that eye better without the change in lens, but maybe that would be best in the end. All the best as you move forward.

  20. First of all we hope your eye issues are resolved with your new doctor. I was so happy to have my cataracts fixed but was lucky enough to have no problems. We hope that for you soon! Then the poem you wrote - well it's PERFECT......what a crazy situation to have half your "stuff" on a balcony when a big breeze or a bad storm could ruin EVERYTHING! I guess some people like to live dangerously!!!

  22. Happy Mother's Day! Loved the poetry! I am sorry about your eyes. They are so important. I had a dr. like that as a child. Gave me bifocals. The new doctor back than was literally mortified. I hope you heal properly now. Working 35 years in health care I remind everyone, they are people just like us. After what happened to my nephew in a big hospital, I am sad that people work in the field that could care less. They just love the $$$! Very sad
