All in a Flurry, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

 ***********************************

While it's not such a big hurry to type up my Thankful Day post, this past week has had its moments.

Grandpa was born in a hurry, and has been in a hurry to get everything done yesterday since he got his first paper route on his bike at age 11.  When we are at the grocery store, he zips through as fast as he can and then starts following me around asking if i'm done yet and getting anxious if i am actually looking at ingredient labels for Grandma to find the stuff she really likes.

Last Saturday, when i was changing the sheets on his bed, i noticed the latest book he was reading, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, by John Mark Comer.  Wow.  I am thankful, because i truly believe you are never too old to learn.

This was also the day Grandma's vacuum cleaner broke, with one of the plug prongs falling out of the plug, something i've never seen.  I'm thankful i was able to zip over to the nearest store which sells small appliances and replace it.  I'm also thankful #2 Son, that evening, put a new plug on the old one, we'll use it as a back-up.

Sunday evening i got to stay with our little Annie and i fed her pakora, samosa and aloo mutter.  I'm thankful she likes spicy food and her parents are committed to making sure she has tastebuds thoroughly acclimated to real food.

All through the weekend and into Tuesday, i was in a bit of a hurry myself as far as work was concerned, as Ms. GA and Mr. BA were out of town and i was going over to their house twice a day for cat feeding and plant/garden watering.  I'm thankful it went well while i was doing it, although i was starting to feel a bit worn down.

Then Tuesday afternoon i got a text, they were coming home early.  Mr. BA had fallen and needed stitches, and was hurting all over and finding it hard to walk, making it all but impossible for them to continue their travels.  Since they had travel insurance, it kicked in and took care of everything, getting them home by Tuesday evening.

I'm not thankful the trip was cut short, i am thankful since it had to happen they were in good hands and i was able to go back Tuesday after babysitting and right before they arrived to make sure all the chores were done so they'd have nothing to do but rest when they got home.

Also i'm thankful two of their cats which have never come near me before finally did so while i was the only one caring for them, Missy and Little Orphan Annie both let me pet them.

Speaking of gardens, i'm thankful my one tomato plant has survived, though it still has no buds on it, just leaves.

The Wednesday adventure with Ms. G and the little autistic boy running around ended well, and i'm thankful and so is she and so is Ms. Tammy, whose house he went into.  I'm also thankful all the work got done by the hardest, all of us were very tired by the end of that day.

Also, Ms. G is getting rid of a few things.  She has several beautiful scarves, still in wrapping and never used, which have been sitting in a closet since before i started going over there more than a dozen years ago.  I'm thankful she told me to pick one to keep, she's giving them away.

Carl was off work on Thursday and Ms. V didn't have exercise class, i'm thankful i was still able to get the house done and get a special errand run.  I'm also thankful, on the errand, i ended up in a waiting room with several very nice people, we all chatted and had a lovely visit while there.  It doesn't often happen that way.

Friday, my phone started acting up again, it wouldn't charge.  I'm thankful the repair place figured out, while i waited, it was the charge port and they will replace it when the part comes in.  Meanwhile, i'm thankful for the spare phone again saving the day, and i was able to get stuff off of it before having to switch.

The evening at the cat shelter was so much fun, the joint was jumping with extra volunteers, lots of people looking and adopting, and plenty of good camaraderie.

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Clark and his co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

  1. While I don't know what pakora and aloo mutter are, I am thankful that Annie is learning to eat real food. I'm thankful my twin grand daughters were given real food from an early age and now eat almost anything. Taste and texture are so important.

  2. I was fed real food from an early age and I believe it makes a difference.
I am not surprised you were feeling a little worn down and hope you get a little time to rest this week.

  3. I will have to find out what those spicy foods really are. They're not words I've ever seen before up here. Your little Annie is growing up quick. I'm thankful that the cold weather seems to be over as it was 42 Sunday morning. And now it seems to be 82 everyday. What a change.

  7. Charlee: "That is a great list of thankfuls!"
Chaplin: "We're glad you have a spare phone, we have seen how difficult it is for Mama to function without hers."
Lulu: "Our Dada loves spicy food these days, but when he was little he would only eat like peanut butter and jelly and hamburgers and things! Of course, his Mama and Dada were not trying to feed him things like pakora and samosa and aloo mutter. They were trying to feed him things like stew and pot roast."
Java Bean: "Ayyy, maybe that was the problem ..."

Good for Grandpa!! May I borrow the book when he finishes it, I know someone that could use it. Yes, plug prongs can come out. Not an everyday thing, but still glad it could be taken care of. Gah, what is it with phones having problems?!?? Hope your week goes well, and many more thankfuls!!!
