It’s been a week of good things for Thankful Day and a few things that, well, with time they’ll turn out all right or have already gotten better.
We’ll start with the good. I’m thankful i got a really early start to NOLA last week. It’s always nice to get out of the house a little earlier and so have a bit of extra time to spend with Grandma.
Ms. A came home from her two weeks away with a bad sore throat which is now better, but it meant she wasn’t singing in the choir this past week. This gave her the chance to sit with me and Becca during the service, and she realizes as much as Becca likes church, it isn’t easy for her to sit through the whole thing, I try to give her things to do, papers to read or drawing materials, but we think she needs more.
I’m thankful Ms. A came up with an action plan, a bag with some small, quiet activities to keep Becca a little more settled in church.
One of Annie’s musical instruments had disappeared from it’s box and I’m thankful i found it in my coat pocket where the little imp had stashed it. She loves putting things in pockets and the coat hangs within reach and now i know to search there first.
Monday, wonder of wonders, i found something i was looking for in a cabinet which had been put in the wrong spot. It’s always a thankful when you find it and don’t have to go get another.
To save time in preparing for rEcess this week, i took Annie on an errand with me. I’m thankful it worked out well, she didn’t try to run off and she had a good time pushing carts at the church.
We’re all thankful our little Annie also seems to have recovered fully from her bee sting, she was much better by the next day. Stepping on a bee when you are such a little thing makes for a lot of tears, but so far she doesn’t appear allergic (we will watch, it can crop up later).
Slow-Moe the car is having brake trouble and we know the brakes need fixing, which will happen soon. We’re thankful we can drive it still, and also thankful we’ve figured out to not put it in reverse for the time being, it seems to be worse then. We’re also thankful the lights on the dash went out once the rain stopped and everything dried out.
All of us are thankful Red-Headed Alec, his fiancée, Libby, and their baby got out of the car safely when it caught fire! We’re also thankful family is already working on helping them get another car.
Friday morning, before all the errands, our electricity suddenly went out. We are thankful the generator came up and did well, and again i’m very thankful #2 Son caught the problem with the oil leak before a catastrophe happened.
One more great thing, we’re thankful for rEcess. It was a fun night hanging out with everyone, including new volunteers. The chicken got cooked just in time (the church oven is slow!). There was almost enough garlic bread (is there ever enough?). Four dozen cookies were devoured and plenty of gumbo enjoyed. The gym was busy, there was karaoke, artworks were created, and of course, shoes were discarded but none were permanently lost.

You certainly had a busy week and it's nice to see Annie looking so cute when she went to church. If your generator was running then your power was out for a while and that's never a good thing. I'm not going wood every morning I wake up this winter because we have not lost our power one time yet. We have terrible thunderstorms headed this way this morning and I just hope they're not tornadoes.

ReplyDeletePlease be extra careful with Slow-Moe and the iffy brakes, I hope they can be fixed very soon. I am glad Annie enjoyed helping set up for rEcess, and that Mrs A found a solution to help Becca through a church service. I also found something I thought I had lost. I'd hung my blue feather duster on a different hook and didn't remember.
