The verdict is in from the hospice people, plus Grandpa’s sore back, my sometimes sore back, and Uncle J’s sore back — Grandma can no longer get out of the bed.
She is too frail, it hurts her, and she is too big a fall risk, plus our backs will not hold up.
While i am very sorry it has come to this i am also very thankful the hospice people are so firm on this as it was getting to be almost impossible for us to get her out of the bed, even though she was insistent.
I’ll be down there today and find out if they are making it stick or not!
Meanwhile, last Saturday, Uncle J got an extra can of table cream, the Mexican style media crema, in his Mall-Mart order which he did not ask for, and he gave it to me. I was thankful to take it as i figured it would get dropped in one of the food bank barrels we have at the church.
Sunday was a beautiful day for a walk, and Mr. Cal met one of his puppy friends and is very thankful.
That evening was a little different. Annie and i walked down to Ms. D’s as always and had a good time, but only for a short time as #2 Son and Daughter-in-Law brought Little Ben and swapped children for me to tend! They wanted to bring Annie to a live music event where children are welcome, she loves them dearly and i was thankful i had her for a few hours in the afternoon and the little guy for almost two hours in the evening.
Ms. D is always thankful to see everyone.
She was also thankful the next day for my cleaning the house since she feeds Annie crackers and There Are Crumbs! I was thankful for a good vacuum cleaner and that i got under the couch cushions.
The drive down to NOLA was good and i was thankful to be in time to see the hospice aid in action as well as the nurse. Grandma is getting great care from their visits, the aid Monday through Friday and the nurse twice a week. It was the nurse who nixed all of Grandma’s standing or getting out of the bed from now on.
It was Uncle J and i who rearranged furniture once again to make her care easier, i’m thankful we didn’t have to move much or move it far.
I’m also thankful we emptied one chest and found treasure, including the baby bracelet from the hospital worn by Grandma when she was a newborn! It’s now in a special place.
Since i was on duty that night, Grandma got me up almost every single hour of the night. I’m thankful i still woke up feeling fit enough to drive home and i am very thankful for coffee.
I’m also thankful i was able to show Grandpa and Uncle J how to change her, and they were supposed to watch the aid, too. I’ll find out if they did when i get there today!
Tuesday with Annie was fun, she continues to raid my kitchen for tools so she can “cook” with the play dough.
Ms. G and i tackled moving her items in storage into a smaller (read, cheaper) unit and i was thankful in some things i am bow stronger than she is because of her many physical problems. I’m also thankful i had time to vacuum, two weeks missed means the Ms. Sassy Floofypants long black hair and the Mr. Gray long gray hair had built up to a level where even i could not tell what color the rug was.
Bible study that night was excellent and i was thankful to be back.
Our double Thursday went very well and we are thankful because Ms.SE’s place was not as easy as it has been the last few times.
Also i’m thankful i stopped at two MallMarts for supplies that morning as the second had some items the larger store where we usually shop has been out of and we were getting desperate.
Friday was a case unto itself, rEcess night! I’m thankful i got to go to prayer, then back to the big MallMart to buy food and supplies, then the bank and then Trader Joe’s where i was going to get more supplies.
At that moment i became suddenly thankful for the can of media crema mentioned earlier. Our local TJs had a loss of power in the night to all of their refrigerators and freezers and the alarms didn’t go off to warn them! This meant they could not sell the roasted corn and Spanish rice from the freezer i needed, or indeed any of their frozen or refrigerated products as they had no clue how long the units were off and the food might be unsafe. I was thankful i could make a quick turn around and i had mayo and crema and when i went back to MallMart for canned refried beans and frozen corn and! while there they had a Mexican frozen street corn on clearance, four boxes, which i could mix with regular frozen corn and doctor up with the other stuff and make something worth while.
As for rEcess, i am here, the food is being devoured with a rapidity which would astonish me if there weren’t so many teen volunteers, and we’re enjoying another night of fun and mayhem for which we are all thankful.
Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Clark and his co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.
