Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border.  Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is on a blog break and is sorely missed, we hope she comes back soon.   Charlotte/Mother Owl participates, and now Karen at Baking in a Tornado is jumping in at least once a month, too.  Anyone else is welcome to join in the fun, just let Diane know!

This week the theme is Kites.                

         

Kites kiss the blue skies

A sure sign of spring

Defying gravity

Tugging their strings

Dipping and swirling

Like living things

One of the gifts

The time of year brings

Each year we'd look forward

And anticipate

Whether Easter came early

Or Easter came late

It brought with it something

Special and bright

Each child would be getting

To fly a new kite!

We'd get up so early

Because church came first,

Then drive to see family,

Thrilled, about to burst,

A big family dinner

Then hunting those eggs,

And out to the levee

'Bout run off our legs!

Each child had a kite

And a grown-up assigned

Making sure they got going

Leave no one behind.

It was truly a favorite

Part of the day

We'd enjoy it until

The sun slipped away.

Maybe this year

Though my kids are all grown,

It's time for a kite

One all my own,

When family time's over

If the day's clear and bright

Go over to the field

And there fly a kite.
