A pregnant cat wandered up to a family home and they took her in, figuring they'd keep her and bring her babies to the shelter so they could find homes.  Then the 3-year-old daughter ended up in the ER, turns out she's highly allergic to cats.  They kept mama in a separate area of the house as long as they could, and that's how we ended up with some unexpected babies in the intake room.  (Mama is there, too, but not pictured, she was getting her medical work-up.)

It's not easy to get pictures of kittens when they're all trying to scoot out of the cage or get to the food bowl!

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border.  Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is on a blog semi-break and her poetry is sorely missed, we hope she comes back soon.   Charlotte/Mother Owl participates, and now Karen at Baking in a Tornado is jumping in at least once a month, too.  Anyone else is welcome to join in the fun, just let Diane know!

This week the theme is Brothers.          

               

It was getting so exciting,

Even Nana came to stay,

As she was going to watch us

While Mama was away.

Dad was always at the hospital

With the patients in his care,

But now even our Mama

Would spend a few days there.

We knew that a new baby

Would join the family soon,

The thought of a little sister

Had me about over the moon.

There was a little problem,

This was many years ago,

Was it a boy or girl?

There was no way to know.

Still holding out for sister,

'Cause a stinky little brother,

Well there was already one here,

No need to have another.

Then the call did come

That we'd all been waiting for,

Mama wanted to tell us herself,

No one else could do that chore.

The phone was held up to my year,

Excited from head to boot,

"It's a boy!" did Mama say,

And my reply, "Oh, shoot!"

Then with the receiver,

Still clenched in my little fist,

Tried to slam it down,

Nana grabbed it so it missed.

That is the true story

Which left me the only girl,

Two stinky little brothers

Left my childhood in a whirl.

(As i've noted before, the people i call Grandma and Grandpa on my blog are my parents, my children's grandparents.  Those became their nicknames early on in the blog and i've just left it that way.  The above really happened when i was five, to my chagrin i never got the sister i wanted, and yes, i really did almost hang up the phone on Grandma when she called to tell me i had another brother because i was so upset!)
