By a stroke that had to be more than just luck, several years ago i met my friend DiDreaming on a chat board, and when several of us got together in person, she and i clicked as if we'd always been friends.
She only lives about an hour drive from where we vacation, so i make sure to go see her every time i come, and we've gotten together at other times as well.
The last year has been very difficult for her; she survived inflammatory breast cancer several years ago, now she has ovarian cancer trying to kick her around, and a few months ago her youngest son died quite suddenly.
Yesterday was my visit, the day after her monthly chemo, and we got all of her laundry done, cleaned the floors, and enjoyed a charcuterie lunch together.
By the time it was time for me to go, she was not feeling well and i helped her get her hospital bag ready just in case.
My prayer is that she won't need it, but i am very concerned -- we need another stroke of that more than luck about now.

While Good Fences Around the World seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, i still enjoy looking for and posting interesting fences, so i will!
A few fences from around here, where we vacation.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
You never know who you will meet
on a New York subway ride.
There might even be a Sasquatch
sitting at your side.
So keep your eyes wide open,
but be polite, don't stare,
and you might be surprised
at what you see out there.

I like your holiday fences, and am praying for 'more than luck' for your friend. That picture and your poem took the prize.
ReplyDeleteSmiling at your poem.
ReplyDeleteI do hope (fervently) that your friend is ok.
Very touching. And such a proper way to relate to someone in such a position... to bring, if only for part of a day, a touch of life before illness.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your friend, Mimi.
ReplyDeletePrayers for your friend and what a nice thing you did for her. You're such a good soul.
ReplyDeleteLove the fences. I always check fences out. Some are fabulous and others need lots of love.
I'm thankful you're on vacation too.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Big hug. ♥
Thinking of your friend.
ReplyDeleteNothing surprises me when I travel on the London Underground, I've seen it all!
Cute poem. I will add your friend to my prayer list. XO
ReplyDeleteThat's very sad for your friend, prayers from us too. That sure was a cute and furry poem and a most excellent thankful, enjoy! Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your friend has a good friend in you!
ReplyDeleteOh, Mimi. Your friend has been through so much. I hope she finds some relief through treatment. It was kind of you to give her a hand with her laundry and floors, two tiring but necessary jobs. Wishing her good luck and good progress.
ReplyDeleteYou see the most amazing things on a subway or bus these days! GREAT POEM!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy and Mom Pam
People, establishments, doctors etc view the persons as their illness and identify them with it. Just, plain wrong.
ReplyDeleteWhat you did was exactly what needed for someone as your friend.
Small actions can create big results.
I had a very close friend who did chemo for breast cancer. Offered to take her to the sessions, she accepted.
ReplyDeleteKnew she was very sad about the loss of her long hair and she was worried that she would stand out with the wig. I had not much hair anyway but completely shaved them. Everyone was coming and giving support to the poor lad at the clinic - the laughs we had. (kept them shaven ever since)
So, keep doing what you know best.
Prayers for your dear friend ~ glad you got to visit with her and provide your loving support ~ Xo
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the fences ~ too and lovely words ~
Wishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
