I'm going to change a few minor details, but this is a true story and if you ever think your life is spinning out of control, remember you aren't alone, because this is what Ms. G and I did yesterday (and be warned, it's a very sad, hard story).
While one of her best friends was with the doctor, finding out the results of her genetic tests to see if she has the breast cancer genes her daughters have already been shown to have and deciding with that doctor whether she'd have a full hysterectomy with her double mastectomy for the cancer she already knows she has to fight, Ms. G and i took care of business for her extended family (son-in-law) with another matter.
It seems one of the daughters mentioned above, who because of those positive genes might not be able to have more children, already has a one-year-old who has been in the hospital for several days with a serious viral illness and dehydration, and a few days ago, when her husband/father of the child finally got home after a very long day of working and then sitting at the hospital with the baby, it was to find the sheriff's deputy waiting to tell him his drug addict estranged mother had been found dead in her home with a note, she'd OD'd on purpose.
His mother, a hermit who shunned everyone, including her only child, was found when across the street neighbor noticed a package hadn't been brought in the house; this woman was shot multiple times 18 years years ago by her husband who, thinking she was dead, then killed himself, and this has brought back her trauma and she's in full PTSD flashback mode.
The whole thing has the neighborhood in quite a state and someone, meaning Ms. G, is having to arrange the cremation and deal with getting the biohazard people to go in today to properly and fully clean the place, so yesterday was spent trying to get access through the garage with the garage door opener that only works sometimes because no one has been able to find the woman's keys to her house, and yes, it finally opened and Ms. G has changed the front door bolt lock so now they do have a key to one door.
Please, hold your loved ones close, don't close those doors, get help if you need it, remember there's no substance or thing worth taking you away from your family, and live your life to the fullest with zest and be thankful for every blessing because when it comes to things like this, soap operas have nothing on what turns life can take and you can't make stuff like this up.

Oh good gracious, that's a horribly upsetting story to shared! So much awful stuff for anyone person to deal with but a whole family? That's quite unreal, almost like you'd find on a soap opera. Seriously! I will keep these poor folks in my prayers. Robin Williams quote is a purrfect tie in and so very true. We shouldn't ever judge someone when you don't know the story. Lots and lots of spring life is visible in our neck of the woods, too. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to show. The azaleas are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThose Azaleas are just beautiful. Wow! We also love that quote about everyone has a battle you don't know about. It is so very true. Some of the happiest people have so many struggles they never share and then they take their lives. So sad. Happy Dr Seuss Day!

Sweet poem. Such a sad story but such a sad truth also. Love the azaleas in bloom. You know I googled a young boy on an episode of Murder She Wrote. It was sad because he took his own life, hung himself at age 27.He had been a child actor and once the jobs dried up because he was no longer cute and precocious . It hurt my heart. Even though this happened sometime ago. I read Ron and Clint Howard's story. Although they had unconventional parents they were never raised with privilege like they were more special and had to earn everything . They also had so many people around them on the shows they acted in. Clint did have a drug problem but he had good people around him to get him through. I am so sorry your friend had to deal with this. Prayers for all involved with the lady who passed away. I am very sorry, I can not imagine that pain of the only child of the lady.

ReplyDeleteThe path we take through life, no matter the character (tragic, unrelenting happiness), is a path with a view. This view, if we afford our selfs of it (and that in and of itself is no easy thing) affords us all of the paths of those around us (to a small or a great degree).
ReplyDeleteThese views (for some, insights for others) are opportunities, according to our natures. (And, by nature, that is not in the predetermined sense, it is by the effort to grow, sense).
One view is, that is tragic, how sad. Another is, but for the grace of god.
Both are 'true'.
The true gift in life is the ability/potential to appreciate and alter how we relate ourselves to the world around us.
