Our dear friend Diane is taking a break

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border.  Charlotte/Mother Owl and i are keeping it going while she takes a blog break, we hope temporarily.  Anyone else is welcome to join in the fun, just let us know!

This week the theme is Chest.                       

My Nana had a treasure chest,

it's what i liked to play with best

when i was very small.

In it she kept what to my eyes

were treasures of the greatest size,

things i liked best of all.

On top there was her make-up case

which on the vanity i would place

and make myself look pretty.

Next there was her jewelry box

with its double clasping locks,

it all went on, though i was bitty.

She kept a very fancy gown,

and a little lower down

matching shoes, which i confess,

were worn with giddiness and glee

as i'd become a princess fairy,

though it was a wedding dress.

Her treasure chest brought hours of fun,

and once my playing time was done,

i'd put it all away.

Until the next visit, for it i'd sigh,

and now i remember with misty eye,

each happy, by-gone day.
