Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts that encourages us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.    

This month, the prompts are being provided by WiseWebWoman.

The children sat at the table playing SCRABBLE while mom and dad did the dishes and eavesdropped on the conversation.

"Did you see the fox about half way up the ridge this morning?" Justin asked.

"Yes!  It was beautiful, and it stood there for the longest time.  I WONDER what it was watching," Cathy answered, then she added, "it's your turn, Sam."

"I only have the letters to spell 'LASSO,'" Sam said, putting the letters on the board and counting his total, which he very solemnly wrote with the care of one who is still learning a lot about writing.  "It's fun to see all the animals around here, and I can't wait for winter to be over so we can go play in the creek again."

"That fox was a new ARRIVAL, I hadn't seen that one before," Justin continued.  "It may be trying to move into this as its territory, and I don't think the one that has a den nearby is going to like that."

Then he said, "GADGET, that's a good word, and I get to double the second 'G'.  Your turn, Cathy."

As Cathy chose more tiles and debated what word to spell, Mom shook her head.

"What?" Dad asked, "is something wrong?"

"No, nothing at all," she said.  "But if you had told me that leaving the city with its crowds and TRAFFIC LIGHTS and crime and moving our family halfway up a MOUNTAIN would have had our kids playing nicely together this way, I would have thought you were INSANE."

"So you are glad we did this?"

"You have no idea."
