“Something needs to change around here, and soon!”
“Oh, c’mon, it’s not that bad.”
“Easy for you to say, you aren’t cooped up with this crew."
"Is the cat going out of her way to harass the dog again?"
"Yes, and sometimes even the other cats. Let me tell you, if this doesn't end soon, they're going to be coming after me with the butterfly net!"

Because i've gone nowhere, i'm dipping into the archives and posting fences from the past.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
Back in these beautiful days,
We played without a care,
No one ever wondered
If it was safe up there.
You didn't brave the big slide,
Until you were quite sure
That you could handle doing it,
First time was bliss so pure!
Now, of course, we realize
The chances we were taking.
You no longer find such things,
Such risks we are forsaking.
Does this mean our children can't
Have adventures grand?
Are they doomed to live a life
Protected, dull, and bland?
A wise parent will say no,
And teach them risk and reward,
Letting them have adventures,
Not live a life that's bored!

Feeling cooped up does make one feel like they are ready for some fresh air to say the least.
ReplyDeleteLove your poem and the photo of the slide. The very first school I attended had a big slide like that, but only the upper grades were allowed on it. The school(s) I attended after that, didn't have a larger slide like that.
I like how you used the 'butterfly net' for the Six prompt along with that cool butterfly on the fence gate. Like too the poem about childhood adventures in the playground.
ReplyDeleteHooray for being able to have adventures.
ReplyDeleteI hope your Sweetie is feeling MUCH better.
You've got a wild cat on your hands there, Mimi! As for the poem and pic of the slide, that really brings back memories (health and safety? what??).
ReplyDeleteMom said being stuck in the hospital for three days was torture! We can't imagine being quarantined at home for days and days. That would be hard not to just get back to normal.
ReplyDeleteTotal 'blast-from-the-childhood-past'.... that expression, or, more specifically the reference to butterfly nets and men-in-white.
ReplyDeletefun
Beautiful metal gate. Wishing you well, Mimi.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I like the conversation concerning the cat and the poem. If I were to go up on that slide and mom came to know about it, I will get a good caning from her.
ReplyDeleteKitty must be really bored! The Dad had a great big slide like that at his Grade School. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteLove the six. You do them so very well.
ReplyDeleteYour poem made me smile. We were tough kids back then and we had fun.
Fingers crossed that Sweeties car runs for years and years.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday. Healing prayers to you both. ♥
This line is my childhood...Back in these beautiful days,
ReplyDeleteWe played without a care,
No one ever wondered
If it was safe up there.
and happy birthday Loni Anderson. hubba hubba.
great six. great poem.
The poem was true and it explained what our life was like. Yes, we got hurt but we learned from it and it was wonderful for enjoying the life we had. Our children learned from it and we hope that our grandchildren will learn from it also.

Love the poem, 'butterfly net', I've never heard that description before - MOL!
ReplyDeleteWhen they say fight like cats and dogs they are not speaking of a fair fight...unless the cat has been declawed.
ReplyDeleteA very nice poem and thankful. How things have changed and not all for the better
ReplyDeleteGreat poem and story. SOunds like a fun cat. And the slide looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen. :) XO
ReplyDeletebravo on this poem mimi and soooooooo true. hope you and sweetie both are faring well ☺☺♥♥
ReplyDeleteI used to play all when a child throughout the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Always felt safe, but look back on it today and realize it was a miracle I did not have an accident.
ReplyDeleteLove this naughty cat!
ReplyDeleteSweet story and poetry and great fence photos ` glad car is still running ~ Xo

Whenever I'm sick, the cats all lie with me like they are taking care of me. They ignore my husband when he's sick. Yours seem to be somewhere in the middle!
ReplyDeleteI like that first fence and I LOVE that high slide. We never had 'waves' in our slides, just a straight slip down, but it was fun climbing so high to swoop down so fast. They were dangerous in summer though, the metal would get so hot sliding wasn't allowed. Most slides these days aren't much taller than me, the slide just isn't worth the trouble for anyone over the age of three.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem! I often wonder just how I got out of childhood alive! I’m probably overprotective of my kids. Eep.
ReplyDeleteOh what a GREAT poem....and so true....I think kids' slides are mostly plastic these days vs. that metal that gets hot enough to fry an egg on (or a bottom!). Thanks for playing poetry with us every week!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy and Mom
Oh my goodness- we hope your sweeties car keeps on going! That is the last thing you need. Take care !
ReplyDeleteCats can be downright fiendish when they're in the mood, lol
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your poetry, Mimi and what a phenomenal looking slide!
A running vehicle indeed a big thankful.
A great six Mimi. Your poem reminded me what wonderful childhoods we had, like climbing high up into trees and doing daring things in playgrounds that wouldn't be allowed today. We'd go out in the morning and not come back until tea time. Our parents didn't worry. We'd even hitch-hike by the road side. Happy days!
ReplyDeleteI can picture this! My niece's cat has an evening ritual of playing with the dog's tail and the dog lets it.
ReplyDeleteGreat poem! LOve all your shares here. Keep praying for you all and hoping everyone gets healthier day by day. You take care, too, TLC TLC TLC
