It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.
One person was worrying a bit about Carl last week, doing some of the things he does.
No need to worry. He's normal, for him. He is a special needs adult, he thinks differently from the rest of us.
His father is a PhD chemist and can be a bit of an absent-minded professor type, and his mother sometimes gets a tad scattered, too.
For example, i clean the main house every other Thursday, and that was last Thursday. Usually when i am leaving, i start the cleaning rags in the washing machine, and Ms. V finishes that load by hanging what can't go in the dryer and drying the rest.
Last week, i did not start the wash as she and Mr. L were leaving for an appointment and i do not leave a washer, dryer, or dishwasher going when no one in home (risk of overflow or fire and no one around to know). She was supposed to start the load, all of which was in the washer, when she got home.
Arriving yesterday, i found evidence that she had forgotten, and that Carl had simply pulled the cleaning items out of the washer and put them aside, still dirty, when he next wanted to do his wash.
Dirty cleaning cloths, the lint screen cover, a brush and who knows what else. Yes, if the dryer balls fall out, he leaves them out. What about it? |
Second week in a row he'd actually dried the clothes. Of course, the lint screen cover was missing, it was up there, on top of the dryer. |
It just doesn't look very encouraging. |
Dirty cleaning cloths everywhere. |
He preloaded the washer for me, sort of. |
The requisite pair of still folded socks that he somehow manages to get into the laundry room each week. |
When i could not find the trash can that belongs in the laundry room, i went looking and sure enough, it was in the kitchen with very little trash and some of the recycling thrown in.
Garbage can with recycling on top next to a recycle bin. |
Empty recycle bins are too far away! |
Carl had put it there. He'd run out of room in the other bin. Of course, there were two more bins next to the first one, neither full. They, however, were further away from where Carl stands when he puts things in the recycling, so they don't count.
Upon walking in yesterday morning, there was an almost overpowering smell i could not identify. When i asked Carl, he said, "Essence. You know, Air Wick!"
It took me a moment to figure out what this was. |
Ah, he was using an air freshener stick. Since he didn't buy a holder for it, he'd stuck it in the drain screen in the sink.
That still didn't explain how strong the smell was until i found this.
Under the receipt box. |
This many air freshener sticks would overwhelm anyone's sniffer, and they did mine. They went in a zip bag.
At one point before i got him out the door, i turned around and saw Carl had simply left the fridge door wide open.
See the uncovered cups? |
The cups, when he was done, with tea spilled on the counter. |
He's not trying to waste electricity or let things melt, he simply opens the door, thinks of something else, and walks off. Since he'll be back "soon," the door stays open.
When he got back, he did something i hadn't seen him do before. He took the two cups that were in there with no lids, and poured the contents, tea, into a half empty bottle of tea that he also had in there. His mother has been cautioning him that he will lose anything he leaves in an open container in any fridge, and i guess this is his solution, rather than find a lid for the cups.
In showing that even i can be taught, i remembered to look for the laundry stain remover spray in his car before he was loading the car. Yes, despite our many admonitions, he is still trying to remove stains from his car upholstery with laundry stain remover. It's okay, it can't hurt and makes his car smell better.
At one point while he was trying to get out the door, Carl stopped to start looking at his receipt pile, the main one, again.
The main receipt box and pile |
more receipts on the counter |
more receipts behind the coin sorter |
He's got tons of receipts in many places, and i suggested he throw them away.
"No, no! I need to find one, I know it's in there!"
Whatever you're looking for, i told him, the purchase was too long ago for you to return the item, at least by now.
"Taxes!" he said, then, "you got my snack together?"
At the end, he know's what's important.
Have a blessed and beautiful Tuesday, everyone!

ReplyDeleteThe good news is that you know Carl pretty well. I'm sure in the beginning it was super difficult to figure out what was going on!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your posts about Carl. He's such an entertaining whirlwind. You made me chuckle many times and even before I got to your funnies. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Big hug. ♥
Carl is ... just Carl. I wonder ... Can he drive a car?
ReplyDeleteMama mia! You are the Saint of Patience! Have a very Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteI think Carl is a lucky guy, he's partially self sufficient, well supported, and loved.
ReplyDeleteOh my poor Carl. His entire family though they are smart, are all like the same entire family. Thank God they have you Mimi. Like I always said, you are an angel.
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
There's been a time or two when we've all been Carlfied, but we're glad he has you there too!
ReplyDeleteI am glad there are no cats living there. Those sticks could be deadly if gnawed on. Great bunch of funnies.
ReplyDeleteOh, Carl. You have had your hands full, Mimi.
ReplyDeleteLove the funnies. Carl would have me tearing my hair out. Those scent sticks are really strong, too strong for me.
ReplyDeleteThe days and stories you have there. I worked with special needs adults one summer, but just at night to go to movies or outdoor concerts, so I didn't have the responsibilities as you do. I had a blast and ended with many stories, also. Larry reminds me of my household nowadays with Betsy. Also: I keep looking at your lists for an insect or arthropod day. Alas. None so far, but one is coming in May. Many in May, actually.
